Рецепт Weight Loss Diet for the “Real World” – Tip #1
by Renee Pottle

Eat more vegetables. Eat less meat. Skip dessert. We all know the drill. To lose weight we need to eat better. Sounds easy to follow – if you live in utopia. But here in the real world our busy lives sometimes get in the way. So I am not going to waste your time spouting diet plan mantras. Let’s just figure out how to lose weight in a lasting, healthy way – so we are not having this same conversation again next year! If you are trying to lose weight I am in this with you. My genetically high cholesterol level refuses to come down, so the doctor wants me to lose 12 pounds. Doesn’t sound like much, but I am already a vegetarian, who doesn’t eat deep fried food, doesn’t drink soda or lattes, and doesn’t have much of a sweet tooth. Not a whole lot of room to adjust my diet. But we are going to do this together! Let me know how your diet “journey” is progressing – and share your tips with me.

Tip #1 – Detox

No, not colonics or messy and expensive spa treatments. Start off with a one-day detox that will help flush out all those toxins in your system. It’s easy – drink 6-8 glasses of water and lots of green tea during the day. You can also drink some unsweetened pear or apple juice, but not in place of the water. No sugar, no meat, not cheese or other dairy, no wheat and no peanut butter today. A little bit of food is ok but stick to things like whole fruit (apples, pears, bananas, berries, oranges), a few nuts, vegetables – especially cucumbers and bell peppers, and rice cakes or rice crackers.

Here’s what I had on my detox day: 4 cups of green tea, 6 glasses of water, 1 plain rice cake, 1 orange, a glass of pear juice, a salad (made with cucumbers, Boston lettuce, radicchio, avocado, zucchini, and dried cherries, topped with a drizzle of olive oil and raspberry vinegar), Esau’s Pottage (a comfort food combination of lentils, rice, red bell pepper, carrots, and celery), and homemade popcorn topped with butter flavoring. I lost 5 lbs that one day! And it hasn’t come back. Plus, I woke up the next morning feeling great. You may not have the exact same results, but even if you don’t lose an ounce, your body will be in better shape and ready to lose as the week goes on. It’s best to do this on a day when you are really busy though, and don’t have time to think “I can’t eat” all day. Just remember to keep drinking water.
