Weekend Getaway to Baltimore and Washington DC

This past weekend Kurt and I embarked on a road trip to Baltimore with a quick stop over at Washington DC. We drove in on Saturday night and headed straight to our favorite place, LP Steamers for Maryland Blue Crab only to find out that they had run out. The place looked so packed no wonder they had no crab left. After driving for two hours, we were determined to find crab. If you’ve tried Maryland blue crab before you know that it’s worth the travel. It’s a trip that we take many times each year. I recalled seeing a place during our visits to Baltimore we had never tried, called Captain James Crab House. It’s now tied for our favorite place for crab in the Baltimore area. The atmosphere was great, music was chill and the crab was humongous. We ordered a dozen extra jumbos and for a moment Kurt had doubts about our ability to finish them all. He obviously didn’t know who he is dealing with! Crazy man! I (his hungry wife) had about seven all by myself. The next morning we headed down to Hot N Juicy Crawfish in Washington DC to continue our foodie adventure. For some people it’s about their taste buds doing the tango, for others it’s about the bags of steaming juicy shrimp, corn, crawfish or whatever seafood your heart desires. For us it’s about the experience of rolling up our sleeves, removing our jewelry and getting into it up to our elbows while completely overindulging. We started with a mixed bag affectionately called The Drool. As if fried calamari, 1/2lb shrimp, 1lb crawfish, sausage, potatoes, corn and snow crab legs wasn’t enough we ordered another pound of shrimp and a pound mussels. I seriously don’t know where it all fit. I think may have gone into food coma. The wonderful waitress even took our picture for their Instagram. Just like that we became local celebrities. Not. Haha. What happened next was a blur. I remember falling down the stairs as we were leaving the restaurant and saying our goodbyes to the great staff. Embarrassing…… yeah…. to my defense, the steps were wet. Why am I so clumsy? I can do an entire post just about my clumsiness. I’ll save the story for another time. Only traveling to DC once before and not seeing the White House, we decided to do a little site seeing. After all, how can I visit our Nation’s capital without seeing the White House? Why does time fly by so fast when you’re having fun? At least vacation is right around the corner. Soon enough I’ll be in Lake Tahoe and Reno having a great time. Until then it’s work, work, work. Well, maybe a little fun in between.
