- Pour vegetable oil into a saucepan. Add and cook the garlic, onion and mushrooms for about two minutes on medium heat until the onions are tender and translucent. Add the flour, yeast, soya or tamari to make a paste. Add the water or stock gradually, while stirring constantly. Add the sage and salt. Bring the gravy to a boil on medium to high heat, stirring constantly. Let the gravy boil for a few minutes to thicken. Add Pepper. Adjust seasonings to your taste.
