Happy Father’s Day to all the Dad’s out there!!
I have a special post for you today. “Today’s event is being hosted by Kim of Cravings of a Lunatic and Jen of Juanita’s Cocina. They teamed up with their blogger friends to help raise awareness and support for Cancer and Hospice today in memory of Kim’s dad. We encourage everyone to read the posts and share their own experiences with cancer. We also would like to encourage everyone to donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, the American Cancer Society and also to the Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association. Hospice was a key element during Kim’s father’s battle with cancer. They made it possible for Kim to care for him at home. So please show your support and donate if you can. You can also contact your local Hospice and donate directly to them if you wish. A little goes a long way! ”
I am happy to be a part of this great event today. Thankfully my dad is alive and well. My family has had its brush with cancer though. Just over 12 years ago my grandpa passed away from cancer. Of all of my grandparents he was the most active, and healthy one. But he was diagnosed with a rather aggressive form of liver cancer. He died about 8 months after he was diagnosed. At the end, hospice care did an amazing job helping him and my family through his death. My grandma, my mom, and all of her siblings were with my grandpa for the last few days. Hospice set up his bed in their living room, so the whole family could be together. I think it was a very important and helpful thing in saying good-bye.
My mom also had a brush with cancer, but thankfully she beat it! Right after my grandpa died, my mom was diagnosed with stomach cancer. She went through treatment, and by the time I got married, 8 months later she was cancer free, and has been since!
Totally unrelated, but did you check out that pineapple corer? OXO
sent it to me, and it so cool! The pineapple comes out in rings!
