.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20the%20milk%20was%20spoiled%20and%20while%20Chris%20wasn't%20yet%20home,%20so%20could%20stop%20for%20me,%20by%20this%20time%20I%20had%20my%20eye%20on%20the%20pile%20of%20garden%20tomatoes%20(some%20ours,%20some%20from%20the%20neighbor)%20on%20the%20windowsill%20and%20the%20wheels%20started%20turning.%20Is%20there%20such%20thing%20as%20tomato%20bread%20pudding?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAn%20Internet%20search%20turned%20up%20a%20few%20interesting%20recipes%20that%20I%20thought%20I%20could%20rely%20on:%20one%20from%20Giada,%20which%20sounded%20very%20good%20but%20seemed%20a%20little%20complicated%20on%20this%20particular%20evening;%20one%20from%20Geoffrey%20Zakarian,%20whom%20I%20adore%20and%20think%20is%20a%20genius,%20but%20that%20one%20sounded%20more%20like%20a%20bread%20salad,%20and%20I%20had%20made%20that%20last%20year;%20and%20one%20by%20Rachel%20Ray.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow,%20I%20don't%20mean%20to%20offend%20anyone%20here,%20but,%20to%20put%20it%20mildly%20(or,%20perhaps,%20to%20understate%20it),%20I%20am%20not%20a%20fan%20of%20Rachel%20Ray%20nor%20have%20I%20ever%20been.%20I%20don't%20like%20her%20forced%20perkiness,%20I%20can't%20stand%20those%20too-cutesy%20names%20for%20foods%20she%20makes%20up%20(e.g.%20%22stoup%22%20and%20%22sammies%22),%20and%20I%20firmly%20believe%20that%20really%20good%20food%20takes%20longer%20than%2030%20minutes%20to%20make.%20But%20I%20ignored%20my%20instincts%20out%20of%20sheer%20weariness%20and%20the%20desire%20for%20a%20relatively%20easy,%20quick%20recipe%20that%20used%20what%20I%20had%20on%20hand%20(namely,%20butter,%20old%20bread,%20and%20garden%20tomatoes).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20followed%20her%20recipe%20to%20the%20letter,%20other%20than%20doubling%20it%20to%20make%20a%20portion%20fit%20for%20a%20crowd.%20I%20took%20a%20long%20look%20at%20it%20before%20I%20put%20it%20in%20the%20oven.%20It's%20old%20bread,%20tomato%20puree,%20a%20little%20salt,%20a%20little%20sugar,%20a%20little%20pepper,%20some%20butter%20and%20cheese.%20Where%20was%20the%20real%20flavor%20going%20to%20come%20from,%20I%20wondered?%20It%20needed%20herbs,%20at%20the%20very%20least,%20so%20I%20sprinkled%20it%20with%20Italian%20seasoning%20and%20called%20it%20a%20night.%20As%20it%20cooked,%20it%20smelled%20very%20good.%20When%20it%20came%20out%20of%20the%20oven,%20it%20looked%20pretty%20good.%20I%20stole%20a%20small%20corner%20piece%20to%20taste.%20It%20tasted%20like%20soggy-ass%20pizza.%20So%20nasty%20that%20I%20refuse%20to%20include%20the%20recipe%20here%20because%20I%20really%20don't%20wish%20this%20on%20you.%20What%20a%20waste%20of%20some%20gorgeous%20tomatoes!%20Wah!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20re-checked%20the%20recipe%20and%20realized%20it%20wasn't%20me.%20I%20hadn't%20made%20any%20errors,%20had%20even%20added%20flavor%20to%20it,%20and%20now%20there%20was%20nothing%20else%20to%20be%20done.%20I%20cooled%20it,%20chilled%20it,%20brought%20it%20to%20school%20and%20served%20it%20at%20room%20temperature.%20Most%20unusually,%20but%20certainly%20not%20unexpectedly%20(especially%20after%20that%20icky%20taste%20test),%20not%20a%20single%20person%20asked%20for%20the%20recipe.%20Really,%20dear%20readers.%20Don't%20try%20one%20this%20at%20home.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThanks%20for%20nothing,%20%22Ray-Ray.%22%20Next%20time,%20I'll%20have%20Chris%20stop%20for%20milk.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
