Рецепт tips for keeping healthy on vacation
So you're on vacation - drinks are flowing, laughs are happenin, food is being served - life is GOOD.
I'm currently in California for a month with my family, that's a lonnggg time to be on holiday so let's be real I need some consistency, some routine, and some healthy habits to stay on track during this month long bliss. Here I will share with you mine.
Tips for Staying Healthy on Vacation
Keep a routine.
I used to think it was annoying when people had a, "routine" but having a routine actually reduces stress, starts your day off positivity and gives you time to prepare for a great day.
- Leo from Zen Habits writes a fabulous article on benefits of an early routine in his post:
- Drink Water
It's simple, but effective, so take like Nike and
'Just Do It.'
You need to keep this in mind when you're on vacation cause it's easy to forget with all the extra eating and drinking. Keeps ya regularrrr....there I said it.
Get Active
You've got extra time, and that extra time should be spend on YOU. Enjoy a new fitness adventure you've always wanted to try, check out a new yoga studio you've never been too. Most places offer a free first class trial, all you need to do is ask!
I've been going to a lot of different yoga classes lately so it was nice to see one of the types of style Modesto has to offer.
If you don't have a gym close to you, you can always go for a walk.
Walking around the mall counts too....HEY some malls are really BIG!
Create Vacation Goals
Now, when I say goals this is going to mean something different for everyone. For me my vacation goals include things like RELAX - read, meditate, sleep in, etc.
Yes, I need those reminders.
Whatever you don't do during a normal work week but have always wanted to do - focus on that!
Do something special just for you.
It's like going out to dinner to a restaurant, get something you wouldn't normally make on your own....
it's that kinda goal.
Food Prep
For me the hardest meal are lunches - usually because I'm busy...."relaxing" and don't eat when I first feel hungry. I usually think, "No worries, I will eat later...." When later comes around I find myself starving and eating more than I really need.
Having healthy food ready to go fixes that problem with no worries!
Today I did a mini prep for my next few lunches:
We all deserve a good massage once in a while, kale included.
Here are some great posts on Massaged Kale if you are interested in trying/creating/eating:
For the Love of Food Blog - Easy 'How-To' with only 4 Ingredients
One of my favorite, most rad, Vegan blogs shares two of her fav. massaged kale recipes in her post
a tofu pepper lime sautee!
Experiment with different ingredients and flavors, chances are you will find something delicious!
Avoid Temptations
You know YOU the best, so do what works for you.
For me, some things that helped were to: organize the fridge, placing my food in a certain area so I wasn't distracted by all the goodies in mom and dad's fridge.
I went shopping at a local farmers market, Sprouts. It was like a giant Trader Joe's, I was in heaven with all the clean eating choices. From vegetarian food, to healthy snack food, flavors of milk, yogurt, etc. etc.
H E A V E N people.
I was able to get some of my daily 'go-to's' and try some other health foods I've been waiting to get my hands on.Living in New Zealand there aren't always the widest selection of food.
I love exploring health food stores though,
if it's not your thing, go in with a list - conquer - and bounce.
