%20is%20an%20absolute%20thrill%20for%20me.%20So%20thrilling,%20in%20fact,%20that%20I%20ran%20right%20out%20and%20picked%20up%20a%20copy%20of%20the%20book%20as%20soon%20as%20I%20heard%20about%20the%20event.%20Its%20lovely!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpice%20&%20Ice%20is%20a%20chic%20little%20cocktail%20cookbook%20that%20deftly%20pairs%20all%20manner%20of%20spirits%20with%20a%20stunning%20assortment%20of%20spiced%20and%20spicy%20ingredients.%20With%20drinks%20named%20%22Coco-Grenade%22%20and%20%22Sangria%20Scorcher%22%20and%20ingredients%20such%20as%20harissa,%20wasabi%20and%20thai%20chiles,%20Newman's%20recipes%20are%20inviting%20to%20say%20the%20least.%20Today,%20I'm%20going%20to%20share%20with%20you%20her%20%22Fall%20Spice%20Cocktail%22.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20Kara's%20words,%20%22this%20drink%20falls%20more%20on%20the%20'spiced'%20than%20'spicy'%20side,%20of%20the%20spectrum.%20This%20sweet%20cordial%20pairs%20well%20with%20autumn%20pies%20and%20other%20desserts%20or%20makes%20a%20great%20sipper%20to%20enjoy%20fireside.%22%20We%20may%20be%20past%20Fall,%20but%20the%20winds%20are%20still%20wicked%20and%20the%20roaring%20fires%20still%20necessary,%20so%20I'd%20say%20its%20perfect%20for%20winter%20too!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBe%20aware%20that%20this%20drink%20calls%20for%20a%20little%20prep-work:%20you'll%20need%20to%20prepare%20the%20chipotle-orange%20syrup%20in%20advance.%20Trust%20me,%20its%20easy.%20It%20takes%20all%20of%2015%20to%2020%20minutes%20and%20you%20will%20be%20rewarded%20greatly%20for%20your%20efforts.%20If%20you're%20old%20enough%20to%20drink,%20you're%20old%20enough%20to%20delay%20gratification,%20right?%20Right.%20Let's%20get%20to%20it!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBring%20the%20water%20to%20a%20boil%20in%20a%20small%20saucepan.%20Reduce%20to%20a%20simmer%20and%20add%20the%20chipotle%20pepper%20and%20orange%20peel.%20Cover%20and%20let%20simmer%20for%2015%20to%2020%20minutes.%20Strain%20with%20a%20fine-mesh%20sieve%20and%20add%20the%20sugar.%20Return%20to%20a%20boil%20and%20stir%20until%20the%20sugar%20dissolves.%20Remove%20from%20the%20heat%20and%20let%20cool.%20Pour%20the%20syrup%20into%20a%20container%20and%20keep%20in%20the%20refrigerator.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDiva's%20notes:%20I%20used%20fresh%20orange%20peel,%20because%20my%20market%20didn't%20seem%20to%20have%20any%20dried.%20I%20don't%20think%20the%20drink%20suffered%20for%20it%20a%20bit.%20I%20also%20chose%20to%20use%20Navan,%20the%20vanilla%20cognac,%20because%20I%20simply%20do%20not%20enjoy%20commercial%20vanilla%20vodkas.%20If%20you're%20ok%20with%20them,%20or%20have%20made%20your%20own%20vanilla%20vodka,%20go%20for%20it.%20The%20Navan%20is%20pricey,%20no%20doubt%20about%20it,%20so%20opt%20for%20the%20vanilla%20vodka%20if%20you%20prefer.%20In%20future%20iterations,%20I'd%20probably%20substitute%201/2%20cup%20of%20agave%20nectar%20for%20the%20sugar,%20but%20that%20is%20a%20personal%20choice%20as%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo,%20how%20does%20it%20taste?%20Intriguing%20and%20delightful!%20The%20acidity%20of%20the%20orange%20tempers%20the%20sweet%20caramel%20notes%20of%20the%20bourbon;%20and%20the%20hint%20of%20chipotle%20provides%20a%20rather%20addictive%20bit%20of%20warmth%20on%20the%20finish.%20Simply%20put,%20it%20makes%20you%20want%20to%20take%20another%20sip%20-%20and%20that's%20the%20sure%20sign%20of%20a%20well-crafted%20cocktail.%20I%20loved%20it%20and%20you%20will%20too!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI'm%20not%20sure%20who%20else%20is%20on%20the%20guest%20list%20for%20this%20lovely%20little%20fete,%20but%20I%20know%20for%20certain%20that%20my%20friend%20Charmian%20Christie,%20from%20Christie's%20Corner,%20will%20be%20bringing%20something%20to%20the%20party.%20Monica%20Bhide,%20author%20of%20Modern%20Spice,%20will%20be%20there%20too.%20I%20can't%20wait%20to%20see%20what%20they've%20stirred%20up.%20Look%20for%20their%20offerings,%20as%20well%20as%20the%20others,%20on%20Kara%20Newman's%20Spice%20&%20Ice%20Blog.%20Come%20thirsty,%20its%20bound%20to%20be%20a%20delicious%20affair!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMany%20thanks%20to%20Charmian%20for%20connecting%20me%20with%20Kara,%20and%20to%20Kara%20for%20adding%20a%20little%20more%20spice%20to%20our%20weekly%20Happy%20Hour%20here%20on%20Beach%20Eats.%20If%20this%20drink%20is%20any%20indication,%20Spice%20&%20Ice%20is%20going%20to%20get%20a%20LOT%20of%20use,%20Chez%20Diva.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECheers!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
