Рецепт The Great Migration Cocktail with Mariposa Agave Nectar Liqueur for #FridayCocktails
by Barbara Kiebel

HELP! I literally can not keep up with the booze that is showing up at my door. Now some of you may think…aww, poor baby, but the truth is there a lot is wine, some prosecco and the occasional bottle of liqueur or even hard liquor that must be tested…and I do believe I’m up for the *hic* challenge. Seriously, come on over, I have a ready supply of gifts to share; maybe it’s time to have another Girls Nite Out; much more of this and I could host a national event. I count 16 bottles this week; see, I wasn’t kidding!

One of the most recent and delightful surprises was a brand new liqueur comprised of agave nectar, 100% agave tequila and premium vodka. Mariposa is a lovely pale gold in a clear bottle and it looks like a light tequila with that golden yellow color. Added to the mix are rose oil and gardenia in a very subtle way, just a hint of those floral notes come through. From the list of ingredients (agave liqueur being a natural sweetener) it’s evident this will be a mixologist’s best friend and will be used as a flavor enhancer in any number of cocktails old and new. It is being compared quite favorably to St. Germain elderflower liqueur and I get that; even with the tequila it is very tame and the components mix nicely together.

On it’s own it’s a medium body libation with a honey forward which is followed by peach, orange and grapefruit notes. The tequila and vodka are actually very much in the background. Although I was going to use it in a cocktail, I also tasted it straight. Some might enjoy it for sipping; for me it might be just a bit too sweet so I think it’s more perfect as a mixer. You can definitely taste the bite of tequila which is followed with a finish that is both smooth and sweet. I can see this mixed in a wide variety of cocktails and seriously…I’m betting it will quickly become a standard on many a bar shelf; I know I’m happy to have it on mine!

This cocktail was one that was served at the Mariposa Liqueur launch in South Florida. I need a vacation so I let this cocktail transport me for a bit to the beach and the ocean. Ahhhh. There is no doubt I love cocktails with fruit components during the summer but this one hit the spot. Light and refreshing; it was a blend of so many different flavors; gin, that hint of tequila, the floral notes mentioned above; all in an icy cold libation? Definitely a keeper. I thought in keeping with the agave component that a dusting of the rim with turbinado sugar (Sugar in the Raw brand) would be perfect and it was.

Produced by Heaven Hill Distilleries in Bardstown, KY, this liqueur was just introduced in spring of this year; I’m thankful I was given an opportunity to try it and I’m excited about mixing up something unique…I’m thinking oranges might play a role!

The Great Migration
