%20was%20used%20as%20both%20a%20granary%20and%20a%20sechoir,%20or%20tobacco%20drying%20area.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBoth%20uses%20explain%20the%20breezes%20that%20blew%20threw%20before%20the%20insulation%20and%20walls%20went%20up.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20mean,%20if%20the%20purpose%20is%20to%20dry%20stuff%20out,%20one%20doesn't%20want%20it%20air-tight,%20now%20does%20one?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20see,%20even%20though%20the%20area%20was%20above%20the%20house%20or%20living%20quarters,%20it%20was%20actually%20part%20of%20the%20barn,%20with%20access%20up%20the%20barn%20stairs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20that%20doesn't%20mean%20there%20wasn't%20beauty%20in%20the%20old,%20er,%20stuff.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELook%20at%20the%20curves%20on%20the%20stairs%20and%20handrail%20-%20bent%20wood.%20(pink%20lines%20are%20for%20emphasis)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEven%20though%20it%20looks%20like%20old,%20splintery%20wood,%20the%20handrail%20is%20as%20smooth%20as%20glass.%20%20We%20have%20no%20idea%20of%20the%20age....%20but%20it's%20old.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20orange%20brick%20wall%20is%20where%20the%20they%20added%20on%20a%20little%20kitchen.%20%20To%20explain:%20originally%20one%20went%20from%20the%20main%20room%20of%20the%20house,%20through%20a%20door%20into%20the%20barn.%20%20They%20built%20a%20little%20room%20in%20the%20barn%20for%20a%20kitchen%20(tiny%20room%20which%20is%20my%20pantry).%20%20After%20the%20add-on,%20one%20went%20from%20the%20main%20room%20of%20the%20house,%20through%20the%20same%20door%20into%20the%20kitchen,%20then%20through%20another,%20new%20door%20into%20the%20barn.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20top%20of%20that%20little%20room%20is%20where%20we%20dry%20the%20walnuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOn%20to%20the%20work%20of%20the%20week:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe's%20ready%20to%20hang%20some%20doors%20-%20which%20is%20good,%20because%20he%20has%20them%20leaning%20on%20stuff%20all%20over%20the%20place.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20buys%20them%20all%20at%20once%20as%20it%20saves%20the%20trip%20with%20the%20trailer;%20closet%20doors%20included.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20starting%20to%20take%20shape,%20isn't%20it?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20closets%20-%20I%20showed%20you%20the%20beam%20on%20the%20left%20side%20of%20the%20master%20bedroom%20closet.%20%20Not%20to%20be%20in%20any%20way%20inferior,%20the%20right%20side%20has%20a%20post...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENaturally,%20everyone%20will%20be%20insanely%20jealous%20of%20my%20closet%20with%20post%20and%20beam.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMon%20mari%20asked%20me%20to%20pass%20along%20this%20bit%20of%20information:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20are%20an%20absolute%20pain-in-the-ass%20to%20work%20around%20as,%20being%20old%20and%20axe-hewn,%20they%20are%20neither%20straight%20nor%20square.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHe%20does%20complain.....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20wood%20cleans%20up%20nicely,%20though,%20doesn't%20it?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHere's%20a%20remembrance%20of%20what%20it%20used%20to%20look%20like%20-%20this%20is%20the%20far%20corner,%20which%20will%20be%20finished%20last:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20can't%20really%20see%20them,%20but%20there%20are%20rusty%20old%20shears%20hanging%20from%20the%20main%20beam.%20%20Yes,%20we%20left%20them%20there.....%20%20And%20the%20hanging%20stuff%20that%20looks%20like%20cobwebs?%20%20Cobwebs.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20things%20in%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20time....%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20mustard%20sauce%20takes%20very%20little%20time%20and,%20if%20you%20are%20having%20a%20Christmas%20Ham,%20it%20will%20elevate%20it%20to%20new%20heights.%20%20It's%20been%20on%20my%20family%20table%20as%20long%20as%20I%20can%20remember,%20and%20if%20it%20were%20ever%20missing....%20Well,%20I%20wouldn't%20want%20to%20be%20responsible%20for%20the%20mayhem.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20has%20just%20the%20right%20amount%20of%20heat,%20with%20a%20hint%20of%20sweetness%20balanced%20by%20a%20bit%20of%20vinegar.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EReally,%20there%20are%20so%20many%20layers%20of%20flavor%20here%20it's%20amazing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAlso%20works%20well%20with%20every%20other%20kind%20of%20meat%20or%20fish%20you%20can%20think%20of.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMustard%20Sauce%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECrack%20the%20egg%20into%20the%20top%20of%20a%20double%20boiler%20and%20whisk%20until%20beaten.%20Add%20sugar,%20milk%20and%20mustard,%20whisk%20well.%20Cook%20over%20simmering%20water%20for%20about%205%20minutes,%20until%20sugar%20and%20mustard%20are%20dissolved%20and%20mixture%20is%20hot,%20stirring%20occasionally.%20Add%20vinegar%20and%20continue%20to%20cook%20until%20thick.%20Remove%20from%20heat,%20stir%20in%20butter%20and%20salt.%20Refrigerate.%20Good%20with%20almost%20everything%20and%20keeps%20a%20long%20time.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENote:%20if%20you%20don't%20have%20a%20double%20boiler,%20put%20a%20metal%20bowl%20on%20a%20saucepan%20partially%20filled%20with%20water.%20The%20bottom%20of%20the%20bowl%20should%20not%20touch%20the%20water.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20original%20recipe%20came%20from%20a%20small,%20family%20run%20hotel,%20the%20Anderson%20House,%20which%20was%20across%20the%20river%20(Mississippi)%20from%20my%20hometown.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
