Рецепт Thakkali Sweet Pachadi
For the last day of "South Indian dishes" marathon, I chose one of the most delicious lip smacking dish which is not talked about often. This is a classic example for few- ingredients dish that is so delectable. A simple tomato sweet pachadi that is often served in Tamil weddings.
Thakkali Sweet Pachadi
A combination of tomatoes and sugar with a pinch of cardamom flavour and topped with cashews.
- Prep Time: 10 Mins | Cook Time: ~30 Mins | Total Time: ~40 Mins | Yields: ~1/2 Cup
- Ingredients
- 4-5 Medium sized ripe tomatoes
- 1/4 Sugar
- 1 tbsp Ghee | Clarified butter
- Few Cashew nuts
- 1/4 tsp Cardamom powder
Instructions
Blanch the tomatoes. Peel off the skin and puree it.
Heat a Tbsp ghee in a kadai and roast the cashews. Remove them once it is golden brown.
In the same pan, add the puree and sugar. Simmer and cook for about 15-20 minutes until it thickens and the raw smell of the tomatoes are gone.
Add the cashews and cardamom powder.
Notes
This dish, more than a side can be had all by itself. Since it is sweet and almost like a spread, you can even use this on toasts.
The final consistency of the dish may vary. In the weddings it might be a little runny or a little thin than as a jam.
You can also chop the tomatoes and then cook it through. Its absolutely your choice.
Some people also add jaggery to it. You can substitute this for sugar.
