,%20there%20are%20lots%20of%20wine%20producers%20to%20visit.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20lunch%20was%20on%20tap%20first,%20starting%20with%20the%20luscious%20tapanade%20and%20toasts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20we%20had%20our%20share%20of%20wines%20to%20accompany%20the%20meal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFirst%20course%20was%20a%20delicious%20tart%20with%20vegetables%20and%20cheese.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESome%20of%20the%20group%20ordered%20this%20as%20a%20main%20course%20-%20stewed%20meat%20with%20pasta%20and%20vegetables.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20opted%20for%20fish%20served%20over%20polenta.%20No,%20that's%20not%20a%20pickle%20on%20the%20side,%20but%20a%20zucchini.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMore%20wines%20flowed%20throughout%20the%20meal,%20including%20this%20delectable%20dessert%20wine.%20Luckily,%20I%20found%20places%20here%20in%20the%20U.S.%20(and%20the%20U.K.)%20where%20I%20can%20buy%20it%20online,%20and%20you%20can%20find%20them%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course,%20if%20you're%20drinking%20dessert%20wine,%20it's%20only%20natural%20that%20you%20need%20dessert%20to%20go%20with%20it,%20and%20the%20restaurant%20didn't%20let%20us%20down,%20serving%20a%20strawberry%20tiramisu.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESitting%20outdoors%20on%20the%20patio,%20as%20the%20warmth%20from%20the%20Proven%C3%A7al%20sun%20beamed%20down,%20I%20could%20have%20stayed%20there%20all%20afternoon,%20sipping%20the%20muscat%20wine.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20the%20prospect%20of%20a%20walk%20through%20town%20(did%20someone%20say%20shopping?)%20and%20a%20winery%20tour%20beckoned,%20so%20I%20reluctantly%20pulled%20myself%20away.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWalking%20through%20the%20twisting%20streets,%20charm%20oozes%20from%20nearly%20every%20angle,%20every%20corner,%20every%20archway.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20colorful%20shutters%20and%20lace%20curtains%20reinforce%20the%20old-world%20atmosphere.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20then%20you%20arrive%20to%20the%20entrance%20of%20the%20tasting%20room,%20with%20its%20wine%20bottles%20pointing%20the%20way.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBefore%20you%20know%20it,%20you're%20down%20in%20the%20ancient%20cellars%20amid%20the%20casks.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20the%20pouring%20(and%20tasting)%20begins:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAbout%2095%20percent%20of%20the%20wines%20here%20are%20reds,%20but%20we%20sampled%20some%20white%20wines%20also.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EGrapes%20used%20in%20making%20Ch%C3%A2teauneuf%20du%20Pape%20wines%20come%20from%2013%20varieties,%20with%20granache%20the%20most%20predominant.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20vines%20are%20grown%20on%20soil%20that's%20covered%20in%20rounded,%20smooth%20stones%20called%20galets%20(gah-lay).%20The%20stones%20aid%20in%20absorbing%20the%20warmth%20of%20the%20sun,%20helping%20the%20grapes%20to%20ripen.%20They%20also%20help%20in%20holding%20in%20the%20moisture%20so%20that%20the%20soil%20isn't%20parched%20by%20the%20hot%20Proven%C3%A7al%20sun.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpeaking%20of%20moisture,%20the%20skies%20were%20looking%20a%20little%20threatening,%20but%20we%20were%20ready%20to%20head%20back%20anyway.%20We%20took%20a%20different%20route%20going%20back,%20past%20the%20ancient%20city%20walls%20of%20Avignon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20you%20like,%20set%20aside%20some%20time%20for%20a%20detour%20to%20visit%20the%20papal%20palace%20in%20Avignon.%20You'll%20need%20at%20least%20a%20couple%20of%20hours%20to%20do%20it%20justice%20though.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAu%20revoir%20Ch%C3%A2teauneuf%20du%20Pape.%20%C3%80%20toute%20%C3%A0%20l'heure.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThanks%20to%20photographer%20Anthony%20Bianciella%20for%20the%20helpful%20photography%20tips%20(and%20use%20of%20his%20lens)%20throughout%20the%20day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20Thanksgiving%20approaches,%20I%20give%20thanks%20for%20so%20much%20goodness%20I%20have%20in%20my%20life,%20and%20hope%20that%20all%20those%20who%20are%20still%20suffering%20due%20to%20Hurricane%20Sandy%20will%20have%20some%20respite%20for%20a%20day.%20For%20those%20of%20you%20reading%20this%20post,%20I%20hope%20you'll%20be%20thinking%20of%20them%20too%20and%20offering%20support%20in%20whatever%20way%20you%20can.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20everything%20except%20the%20oil%20into%20a%20food%20processor.%20Pulse%20until%20you%20get%20a%20rough%20paste,%20scraping%20down%20sides%20of%20bowl.%20Slowly%20add%20the%20olive%20oil%20and%20process%20until%20it%20has%20reached%20a%20coarse%20consistency.%20Serve%20with%20toasted%20bread.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
