Рецепт sweet little hearts for Valentine’s Day
by Vasanti

Many a Valentine’s Day has come and gone. Some of them filled with the timeless gifts of beautiful flowers, stunning jewelery, crazy parties, candle-lit dinners.. and then some quiet ones at home after our babygirl became our special little valentine! With our 13th right around the corner, I have no idea what we’ll be doing this year. Whether it’s a movie or a dinner, I have just the thing that hit my valentine’s ‘sweet’ spot– my Sweet Little Hearts. This year, trying to beat my all-time hit, the chocolate gift box, I made him these elegant heart-shaped cookies that have a delicate crisp from the buttery puff pastry and the simple flavor of sugar with a hint of cinnamon. Whether you plan on making them for that special someone or decide to treat yourself (& why not!), they’re a perfect last minute Valentine’s treat that will make you Ace of Hearts!

Sweet Little Hearts

These sweet little hearts are delicate, sophisticated pastries that are so easy to make. I made these especially for my husband, who loves similar cookies called “Little Hearts“ manufactured by Britannia, India. I was inspired by the “Palmiers” made by Ina Garten on Foodnetwork and I decided to add my personal touch to his fave!

With their heart-like shape and their carmelized flakey texture, these delectable cookies are an ideal gift for Valentine’s Day! The store-bought puff pastry dough makes the whole process very easy yet when the cookies come out, it makes you look like an expert pastry chef . This is a no-stress no-mess recipe that’s perfect for a last minute sweet treat and you can use your imagination and put your own spin on it! While the pastries were still warm, I chose to sprinkle bright pink sugar and dust with some more powdered sugar on top for a festive look. If you like your sweets subtle, you’ll absolutely adore my sweet little hearts! They’re just as delectable as the store-bought “Little Hearts“or any French Patissiere! They would also go very well with a nice scoop of your favorite icecream or sorbet or even tucked into a chocolate mousse or cake!

So, if you’re looking for a simple yet impressive sweet treat for Valentine’s Day, this one is for you! What are you waiting for?! Try my little hearts and woo your sweetheart this Valentines!

Makes 18-20 cookies

Thaw the pastry sheets overnight in the refrigerator or at room temperature for 40 minutes until it is easy to handle.

Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

Unfold the pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Slightly roll the sheet out with a rolling pin. Brush with melted butter and sprinkle generously with a thin layer of granulated sugar. You can also sprinkle ground cinnamon or freshly grind it on top of the sugar, spreading it evenly throughout the sheet.

Starting at the short sides, fold pastry toward center, leaving a 1/4-inch space in the center. Brush with any remaining butter and continue folding. Fold one side over the other, making a 4-layer rectangle. Repeat with remaining pastry sheet.

Cut each rectangle into 1/2-inch slices. Place cut-side down 2 inches apart on prepared baking sheets. Sprinkle decorating sugar on top, if using.

Bake for 10-12 minutes or until golden brown and the sugar carmelizes.

Remove from the baking sheets and cool on a wire rack. Decorate with more colored and powdered sugar.
