%20these%20are%20the%20first%20things%20to%20disappear!%20%20Followed%20closely%20by%20the%20won%20tons%20and%20the%20chicken%20wings!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20%20have%20been%20making%20these%20delicious%20Sweet%20and%20Sour%20Chicken%20Balls%20since%20the%20late%201970's,%20which%20reminds%20me%20of%20a%20really%20funny%20story%20about%20them.%20%20Haha%20funny,%20not%20the%20other%20kind.%20%20My%20ex%20used%20to%20love%20these%20chicken%20balls%20and%20I%20often%20made%20them%20for%20him.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20had%20an%20electric%20deep%20fat%20fryer%20which%20I%20used%20to%20cook%20them%20in,%20and%20I%20used%20to%20use%20a%20paper%20grocery%20sack%20to%20shake%20them%20in%20and%20get%20rid%20of%20any%20excess%20fat%20when%20they%20were%20done.%20%20One%20night%20I%20was%20making%20some%20of%20these%20for%20a%20snack.%20%20(When%20you%20are%20in%20your%20early%2020's%20you%20can%20eat%20almost%20anything%20for%20a%20snack%20without%20gaining%20weight.%20%20Well%20we%20could%20at%20any%20rate.%20%20We%20often%20made%20a%20pizza%20or%20a%20box%20of%20Kraft%20Macaroni%20and%20Cheese%20as%20a%20snack%20in%20the%20evening.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20had%20just%20shook%20them%20in%20the%20paper%20sack%20when%20the%20young%20lad%20from%20a%20couple%20of%20doors%20down%20came%20in.%20%20We%20used%20to%20organize%20teen%20dances%20with%20him%20for%20charity,%20and%20%20I%20can%20remember%20him%20standing%20in%20the%20kitchen%20talking%20to%20my%20ex%20and%20knocking%20the%20ashes%20off%20the%20end%20of%20his%20ciggarette%20into%20the%20paper%20sack%20holding%20the%20chicken%20balls%20.%20.%20.%20%20and%20of%20course%20I%20was%20so%20shy%20and%20hesitant%20in%20those%20days%20I%20didn't%20have%20the%20courage%20to%20tell%20him%20what%20he%20was%20doing.%20%20So%20my%20ex%20did%20not%20get%20his%20chicken%20balls%20that%20night%20at%20any%20rate!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20was%20the%20same%20young%20lad%20whom%20my%20husband%20caught%20sitting%20in%20our%20car%20in%20our%20garage%20necking%20with%20his%20girl%20friend%20one%20night%20as%20well.%20%20You%20know%20those%20days%20.%20.%20.%20%20nobody%20locked%20anything.%20We%20were%20not%20afraid%20of%20being%20robbed%20or%20stabbed%20in%20our%20sleep%20.%20.%20.%20%20we%20were%20so%20trusting.%20%20Now%20.%20.%20.%20%20back%20to%20the%20chicken%20balls.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20might%20look%20like%20they%20are%20a%20lot%20of%20work,%20but%20really%20they%20are%20not.%20%20There%20is%20a%20simple%20sauce%20that%20you%20can%20make%20well%20ahead%20of%20time%20if%20you%20wish.%20%20%20Then%20there%20is%20a%20simple%20batter%20that%20you%20just%20mix%20your%20chicken%20breast%20chunks%20in.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt's%20quite%20a%20thick%20batter,%20and%20it%20may%20not%20look%20like%20it's%20going%20to%20do%20anything,%20but%20trust%20me,%20once%20those%20balls%20hit%20the%20hot%20fat%20it%20balloons%20out%20and%20you%20end%20up%20with%20lovely%20crisp%20coated%20little%20bites%20of%20chicken%20.%20.%20.%20containing%20moist%20little%20nuggest%20of%20chicken%20breast%20and%20a%20light,%20fluffy%20and%20crisp%20batter%20which%20is%20delicious%20on%20the%20outside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20sauce%20is%20perfect%20.%20.%20.%20%20with%20just%20the%20right%20balance%20of%20sweet%20and%20sour%20and%20a%20nice%20colour.%20%20It%20would%20go%20well%20with%20won%20tons%20and%20other%20things%20also%20.%20.%20.%20%20dumplings,%20spring%20rolls,%20etc.%20%20%20It's%20just%20a%20really%20nice%20sauce.%20%20I%20think%20you%20will%20like%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20two%20together%20are%20just%20gorgeous,%20and%20when%20you%20combine%20these%20with%20that%20lovely%20Chinese%20Beef%20and%20Broccoli%20which%20I%20showed%20you%20yesterday%20.%20.%20.%20%20well,%20you%20have%20a%20fabulous%20meal%20indeed!%20%20Inexpensive%20and%20easy%20to%20make%20and%20one%20which%20is%20a%20real%20family%20pleaser.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*Sweet%20and%20Sour%20Chicken%20Balls*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%204%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Emay%20seem%20a%20bit%20convuluted%20and%20lengthy,%20but%20if%20you%20are%20organized,%20it%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehappens%20quite%20quickly%20and%20it%20worth%20every%20ounce%20of%20effort.%20%20%20These%20are%20as%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Egood%20as%20any%20you%20might%20find%20in%20a%20restaurant.%20%20You%20can%20make%20the%20sauce%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eday%20before%20and%20just%20reheat%20it%20when%20you%20need%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20sauce:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eminutes.%20%20If%20they%20are%20browning%20quicker%20than%20that%20your%20oil%20is%20too%20hot.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EScoop%20them%20out%20onto%20some%20kitchen%20paper%20toweling%20and%20keep%20warm%20while%20you%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ecook%20the%20rest.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20egg%20%20fried%20rice,%20I%20simply%20followed%20this%20recipe,%20leaving%20out%20the%20pineapple%20and%20the%20chicken.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20immediately%20with%20the%20warm%20sweet%20and%20sour%20sauce.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
