%20birthday.%20I%20started%20tinkering%20with%20this%20a%20couple%20of%20weeks%20ago%20to%20bring%20to%20my%20sister-in-law%E2%80%99s%2030th%20birthday%20dinner%20in%20Philadelphia%20at%20BlueCat.%20Since%20it%E2%80%99s%20a%20BYOB,%20I%20had%20the%20idea%20of%20bringing%20everything%20we%20would%20need%20to%20the%20restaurant%20and%20when%20I%20called%20to%20inquire%20they%20were%20more%20than%20gracious%20about%20offering%20to%20mix%20everything%20up%20for%20me,%20so%20that%20settled%20my%20plans.%20The%20real%20question%20was%20to%20figure%20out%20what%20she%E2%80%99d%20like%20and%20I%20quickly%20decided%20that%20a%20nice%20peachy%20sangria%20would%20do%20the%20trick%20nicely.%20When%20we%20usually%20go%20out%20for%20her%20and%20Michael%E2%80%99s%20birthdays%20I%20usually%20buy%20her%20a%20big%20glass%20of%20it%20while%20we%20wait%20for%20our%20table%20at%20the%20traditional%20birthday%20location.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20missing%20factor,%20though,%20was%20figuring%20out%20a%20good%20way%20to%20sweeten%20the%20sangria%20without%20relying%20on%20my%20old%20favorite%20St.%20Germain.%20I%20was%20trying%20to%20minimize%20the%20amount%20of%20liquor%20I%20was%20bringing%20because%20I%20didn%E2%80%99t%20want%20any%20leftovers,%20and%20I%20already%20had%20decided%20that%20the%20few%20shots%20of%20pisco%20brandy%20I%20had%20left%20would%20be%20OK%20to%20spike%20but%20not%20make%20the%20punch%20too%20strong.%20(A%20full%20night%20of%20bowling%20antics%20was%20in%20store,%20after%20all%E2%80%93it%20wouldn%E2%80%99t%20have%20been%20wise%20to%20get%20everyone%20lit%20before%208PM.)%20By%20pure%20happenstance%20on%20the%20day%20I%20wanted%20to%20make%20a%20test%20batch%20I%20saw%20a%20post%20by%20my%20friend%20Darya%20at%20Tortore%20in%20which%20she%20made%20a%20Russian%20drink%20starter/concentrate%20called%20mors.%20The%20idea%20is%20that%20you%20first%20strain%20as%20much%20pulp%20from%20your%20berries%20of%20choice%20into%20a%20bowl,%20and%20then%20use%20the%20remains%20along%20with%20some%20water%20and%20sugar%20and%20boil%20that%20together%20to%20create%20a%20sort%20of%20juice%20extraction,%20and%20then%20combine%20the%20two%20and%20use%20it%20as%20you%20might%20use%20a%20fruit%20puree%20in%20a%20cocktail%20or%20similar.%20When%20she%20posted%20about%20it%20my%20mind%20immediately%20started%20brainstorming%20all%20of%20the%20drink%20possibilities%20this%20preparation%20could%20afford,%20and%20shortly%20thereafter%20it%20dawned%20on%20me%20that%20I%20found%20my%20perfect%20mixer%20for%20this%20sangria%20recipe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThough%20it%20was%20a%20little%20fruitier%20(and%20definitely%20redder!)%20than%20I%20normally%20make%20it,%20but%20I%20think%20it%20served%20its%20purpose%20nicely%20that%20night.%20Normally%20I%20would%20recommend%20only%20putting%20a%20quarter-cup%20of%20the%20mors%20per%20bottle%20of%20white%20wine,%20but%20that%20of%20course%20can%20be%20adjusted%20according%20to%20your%20personal%20preferences.%20The%20basil%20helps%20cut%20through%20the%20sweetness%20a%20bit%20and%20adds%20another%20layer%20of%20flavor%20without%20overwhelming%20the%20fruit%E2%80%93if%20you%E2%80%99ve%20never%20tried%20it%20in%20a%20sangria,%20you%20definitely%20should%20now.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPeach-Basil-Berry%20Sangria%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMakes%20one%20pitcher%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4%20cup%20berry%20mors,%20using%20the%20berries%20of%20your%20choosing%20(I%20used%20a%20combination%20of%20blueberries%20and%20strawberries%20as%20that%E2%80%99s%20what%20I%20had%20on%20hand),%20plus%20more%20to%20taste%20if%20desired%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1/4%20cup%20pisco%20brandy%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20the%20skinned%20peach%20and%20the%20basil%20to%20the%20pitcher%20you%E2%80%99ll%20be%20serving%20the%20sangria%20in%20and%20muddle%20them%20well.%20Add%20the%20white%20wine,%20berry%20mors,%20brandy,%20and%20fruit%20and%20stir%20well%20to%20combine;%20refrigerate%20for%20at%20least%20an%20hour%20(longer%20is%20better)%20to%20get%20it%20well-chilled.%20Add%20more%20berry%20mors%20to%20taste%20if%20desired%20before%20serving.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
