Strawberry Soda Cake and Review
A few weeks back, I received a case of Jarritos Mexican Sodas, and what fun that was! I have to say that I was a little skeptical, being that I grew up on Mexican sodas that some family friends introduced us to. But this brand was equal to if not as flavorful as what I remember and it is ALL NATURAL, if you are able to get Jarritos in your area, I highly recommend that you try them…
Today, Jarritos is the leading brand in the US in the Mexican soft drink category and has become a Mexican cultural icon. Whether it is the distinctive glass bottle or the 11 unique and great flavors, Jarritos can be found throughout the US in major and independent grocery stores, Mexican restaurants, taquerias, catering trucks and convenience stores. Jarritos flavors are a reflection of Mexico in its array of traditional Mexican flavors made with 100% natural sugar including: Mandarin, Fruit Punch, Lime, Jamaica, Mango, Strawberry, Pineapple, Tamarind, Guava, Toronja and Cola.
Traditionally water and other drinks were kept in clay pottery jugs called jarritos to keep them cool and fresh. Today, Jarritos bottles reflect that heritage with their unique shape and embossed neck.
Jarritos flavors are based on Mexican regional traditions in food. Grapefruit, for example, is made from fresh grapefruit from the state of Veracruz. Jamaica (hibiscus) uses extracts from Jamaica flowers originating in Guerrero and Oaxaca. The region of Colima provides lemons for a lemon flavor, and the same with Pineapple from Tabasco. Today, these popular flavors still come from these regions where each year growers compete to provide Jarritos with the best fruit.
- I am in love with Mexican sodas, and being that one of the flavors I received was strawberry, I made this super moist and yummy strawberry soda cake…
- Strawberry Soda Cake
- INGREDIENTS:
- 1 package Strawberry Cake Mix (I used Pillsbury)
- 1 1/3 cups strawberry soda-use this in place of the water
- 2 eggs
- 1/3 cup oil
- 1- 8 ounce tub lite Cool Whip
DIRECTIONS:
Make and bake the cake mix according to the box directions. When the cake is cool, top with cool whip and fresh strawberries for a refreshing, summer dessert.
*I used a heart shaped cookie cutter, cut out 2 hearts from the cake and layered the cool whip in between and on top.
**A case of Jarritos was sent to me to taste and review. I was not asked to cook with the product, but since that’s what I do, that’s what I did. Some of the information in this review comes from their website , but the opinions are strictly my own.
