I love Homemade Ice Cream. When I was young we had one of those old fashioned crank kind of Ice Cream Makers. You know, the kind where you add salt and ice. Thinking about it now, it took some work to crank that thing and lots of ice and salt.

We all took turns cranking it. It seemed like it took an eternity to finish. I just couldn’t wait to try it. I always thought it made the absolute best Homemade Ice Cream.

Nowadays, I don’t need to use the ice and salt. I have an ice cream maker that doesn’t require any of that. You could win a ice cream maker just like that if you enter the giveaway below.

Which brings me to my post. My contribution today is a wonderful Homemade Strawberry Ice Cream. It is just like my mom used to make. It is very fitting to use this recipe from so long ago.

This tastes rich and decadent and is chock full of ripe luscious strawberries.

It brings me back to simpler times.

Strawberry Ice Cream

Ingredients:

Directions:

Combine strawberries, lemon juice, and 1/4 cup sugar in a bowl. Set aside while making the custard.

In a medium saucepan beat egg yolks until light and fluffy Gradually add 3/4 cup sugar, mixing well. Sir in milk and vanilla and mix well. Cook over medium heat stirring constantly until custard thickens and can coat the back of a spoon about 10-12 minutes.

Pour mixture through a sieve. Stir in heavy cream. Allow to chill before adding to ice cream maker.

Add strawberries with juice and mix well.

Pour into ice cream maker and follow manufactures instruction.

Transfer ice cream to a resealable plastic container and freeze until firm about 4 hours.

Make sure you check out each of these blogs, today and all week long, for their #IceCreamWeek recipes ~ and for chances to enter to win our #IceCreamWeek giveaway!
