Usually when I make a stir-fry I try for a variety of colors, shapes and tastes.

This one came from my garden, and I didn’t have any red or orange that was ready to eat.

I decided on a theme of green.

Just so you know…. White zucchini is actually a very pale green.

I used turkey cutlets for this, but a turkey tenderloin or chicken breasts would work as well.

Stir-Fried Turkey with Chard and White Summer Squash

Total time: 30 minutes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Heat olive oil in large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat.

Add shallots, celery to skillet and stir-fry for 2 minutes.

Add pepper, squash and stir-fry another 5 minutes.

Remove vegetables from pan and set aside.

Add sesame oil, soy sauce to pan and heat.

Add turkey and stir-fry 3 – 5 minutes, until golden.

Return vegetables to skillet, along with chicken stock, sherry and chard.

Cover, reduce heat and simmer for 5 minutes, or until chard is wilted and vegetables are tender..

Stir in cornstarch mixture until thickened.

Serve over rice, adding more soy sauce if desired, according to taste.

Rice

Cook rice in chicken stock according to package instructions. Fluff and serve.

We had a very disillusioning day today….

But first, the update:

The door has been finished for awhile, but I don’t think I posted a photo of it closed, showing all the hardware.

So here it is.

We have lights, and light fixtures (the shades are safely tucked away for the moment).

The ‘barn’ wall is finished.

The wall adjoining the bathroom is also done – almost.

We designed the bathroom to leave the window in the bedroom… So there’s a little alcove.

It’s also where the plumbing from the sinks runs.

We’re going to put in a window seat / storage chest that will fill the space and hide the plumbing.

Now to the disillusionment.

When we first moved across the pond one of the things we loved and appreciated was the low crime rate.

We had an alarm system in our house in Minnesota

When we lived in Andorra one could leave a car double-parked, unlocked and running while dashing into a shop. We locked our front door when we left the house but not when we were there.

Here in France we leave doors and windows open all the time. The tractor sits out by the wood pile with the key in it for weeks at a time.

Well, it used to.

Things are changing.

We’re hearing about houses being broken into while the owners are out shopping.

I suppose, knowledge of the relaxed lifestyle has encouraged those with less savory occupations to expand.

We went to Bordeaux today, to pick up radiators – a big one to replace the one that started leaking in our TV room and 2 small ones, for the new bedroom and the pantry. They’re hot water radiators, and they’re heavy. the big one was a meter long and took to people to put it into the trailer.

When we got home the 2 small ones were there but the big one was not.

We’re pretty sure it didn’t bounce out of the trailer….

We think we might have noticed.

We think one of the small ones would have bounced out before the big one.

We can only conclude that while we were having lunch someone stole it…. Two someones, actually, to lift if out of the trailer.

Sigh……

We can only take some slight perverse pleasure in the fact that they probably assumed it was the much more expensive, and common, electric radiator.

We can only hope.

Now we have to go back to Bordeaux and buy another one.

I’ll pack a lunch.
