.%20They%20had%20already%20started%20boarding.%20At%20least%20I%20didn't%20miss%20the%20flight!%20But%20all%20the%20delays%20and%20running%20around%20made%20me%20extra%20antsy%20to%20get%20off%20the%20plane.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBesides%20unpacking,%20the%20first%20order%20of%20business%20the%20next%20day%20was%20to%20get%20meat%20out%20of%20the%20freezer%20and%20stock%20the%20fridge!%20Breakfast%20was%20slim%20pickings.%20Luckily%20I%20had%20some%20red%20potatoes,%20so%20I%20microwaved%20and%20peeled%20them%20and%20turned%20into%20a%20sort%20of%20hash%20brown,%20with%20some%20Jones'%20sausages%20on%20the%20side.%20Thankfully%20my%20freezer%20had%20some%20protein%20to%20rely%20on!%20I%20topped%20off%20the%20potatoes%20with%20hot%20sauce%20to%20add%20flavor%20and%20make%20them%20pretty.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20photos%20were%20taken%20with%20my%20birthday%20present,%20my%20new%20DSLR%20camera!%20I've%20been%20wanting%20one%20(and%20apparently%20talking%20about%20wanting%20one)%20for%20a%20while.%20I%20knew%20it%20would%20improve%20my%20photography%20on%20the%20blog,%20but%20I%20also%20love%20taking%20nature%20photos%20and%20I%20know%20this%20camera%20is%20going%20to%20do%20a%20much%20better%20job%20than%20my%20iPhone!%20I%20still%20have%20a%20lot%20to%20figure%20out,%20so%20I'll%20keep%20practicing%20my%20macro%20shots%20of%20food.%20I%20think%20the%20quality%20of%20these%20photos%20is%20a%20dramatic%20improvement%20from%20my%20other%20food%20photos.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20next%20day,%20the%20first%20order%20of%20business,%20besides%20unpacking,%20was%20to%20stock%20the%20fridge!%20I%20already%20decided%20last%20week%20that%20I%20wanted%20to%20make%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20salads.%20The%20recipe%20is%20modeled%20after%20a%20salad%20Panera%20had%20on%20their%20menu%20many%20years%20ago.%20It%20was%20a%20steak%20salad%20with%20blue%20cheese%20and%20walnuts,%20and%20I%20loved%20it.%20Blue%20cheese%20and%20steak%20are%20a%20perfect%20match.%20With%20so%20many%20fruity%20and%20candied%20pecan%20salads%20(not%20that%20I%20don't%20love%20them!)%20the%20robust%20flavor%20of%20this%20salad%20is%20a%20great%20change%20of%20pace.%20I%20frequently%20make%20this%20salad%20when%20I%20have%20leftover%20steak,%20not%20bothering%20to%20heat%20it%20and%20slicing%20it%20thinly%20before%20placing%20it%20on%20the%20salad.%20By%20all%20means,%20substitute%20leftover%20steak%20for%20cooked%20steak%20here.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20is%2021%20Day%20Fix%20compatible,%20too!%20Also,%20I've%20noticed%20that%20the%20tastiest%20salads%20include%20my%20orange%20and%20blue%20containers.%20Those%20two%20containers%20are%20my%20most%20precious%20ones%20because%20they%20add%20so%20much%20flavor%20and%20variety%20to%20my%20meals.%20I%20typically%20split%20the%20blue%20container,%20as%20I%20did%20here,%20between%20some%20cheese%20and%20nuts%20to%20make%20the%20salad%20more%20flavorful.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20recipe%20also%20shows%20my%20favorite%20way%20to%20cook%20steak%20as%20well.%20Basically%20I%20oil%20the%20meat%20and%20not%20the%20pan%20because%20it%20can%20smoke%20really%20badly.%20I%20sear%20the%20first%20side%20on%20high%20heat,%20and%20then%20when%20I%20flip%20the%20steak%20to%20sear%20the%20second%20side,%20I%20focus%20on%20cooking%20it%20through%20carefully.%20I%20accomplish%20this%20by%20turning%20down%20the%20heat%20to%20medium%20once%20I%20get%20it%20flipped.%20I%20feel%20turning%20down%20the%20heat%20gives%20me%20control%20to%20cook%20the%20steak%20to%20my%20liking%20while%20still%20getting%20nice%20browning%20on%20the%20outside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESteak%20Salad%20with%20Walnuts%20and%20Blue%20Cheese%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Heat%20a%20skillet%20over%20high%20heat.%20Rub%20steaks%20with%20oil%20and%20season%20on%20both%20sides%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper.%20Add%20steaks,%20searing%20on%20the%20first%20side.%20Flip%20steaks%20and%20reduce%20heat%20to%20medium,%20searing%20the%20second%20side%20and%20cooking%20to%20desired%20doneness.%20Remove%20from%20pan%20to%20rest%205%20min.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Add%20spring%20mix,%20tomatoes,%20radishes,%20and%20onion%20to%20a%20large%20bowl%20bowl.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20Blend%20oil,%20balsamic,%20honey,%20some%20salt%20and%20pepper,%20and%20a%20little%20herbes%20de%20province%20in%20a%20small%20bowl.%20Toss%20half%20the%20dressing%20with%20the%20salad.%20Salad%20can%20be%20left%20in%20the%20bowl%20or%20divided%20between%20plates.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Slice%20steaks.%20Arrange%20on%20salad.%20Sprinkle%20over%20walnuts%20and%20blue%20cheese.%20Drizzle%20with%20remaining%20dressing.%20Serve.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%204.%20Per%20serving:%201%201/2%20green,%201%20blue,%201%20orange,%201%20red,%201%20tsp%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
