.%20Because%20at%20no%20time%20is%20this%20more%20difficult%20than%20the%20holidays.%20You%20guys%20want%20potato%20sides%20and%20dinner%20rolls,%20impressive%20roast%20beasts,%20cookies%20for%20the%20cookie%20tins%E2%80%A6.%20and%20hopefully%20you%20want%20hot%20chocolate%E2%80%93I%20know%20I%20do.%20So%20pardon%20my%20little%20internal%20squee%20at%20getting%20you%20guys%20the%20hot%20chocolate%20at%20least.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYes%20this%20is%20a%20mocha,%20but%20to%20me%20it%20is%20a%20nighttime%20drink,%20and%20so%20I%20make%20it%20with%20decaf%20coffee.%20A%20good,%20strong%20decaf%20coffee,%20but%20decaf%20nonetheless.%20So%20in%20my%20book%20that%20means%20this%20falls%20under%20hot%20chocolate%20and%20not%20cuppa%20Joe.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20a%20matter%20of%20fact,%20I%20found%20the%20basis%20of%20the%20recipe%20in%20Michael%20Turback%E2%80%99s%20Hot%20Chocolate%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E,%20a%20tiny%20gem%20of%20a%20book%20I%20picked%20up%20about%20a%20year%20ago.%20Yes%20as%20in%2012%20months.%20See,%20the%20thing%20is%20I%20am%20a%20creature%20of%20habit.%20And%20my%20habit%20is%20peppermint%20hot%20chocolate%E2%80%93about%20a%201:4%20ratio%20of%20cocoa%20to%20dark%20chocolate.%20I%20almost%20never%20vary%20from%20this,%20because,%20as%20my%20brother%20would%20say,%20that%20is%20just%20how%20I%20roll.%20But%20I%20was%20determined%20to%20get%20a%20little%20more%20interesting%20and%20try%20something%20from%20this%20book.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAt%20the%20same%20time,%20I%20was%20feeling%20a%20tad%20guilty%20because%20I%20had%20been%20neglecting%20the%20rum%20we%20brought%20home%20from%20Tortuga%20last%20winter.%20You%20know%20the%20people%20who%20make%20those%20Tortuga%20Original%20Caribbean%20Rum%20Cakes?%20Well%20when%20you%20are%20in%20Tortuga%20they%20also%20sell%20lots%20of%20flavors%20of%20rum%E2%80%93thus%20far%20I%20have%20not%20been%20able%20to%20find%20them%20in%20the%20States%20so%20if%20anyone%20wants%20to%20suggest%20a%20good%20vanilla%20rum%20I%20am%20all%20ears.%20But%20anyway.%20Turback%20calls%20for%20spiced%20rum,%20but%20I%20don%E2%80%99t%20like%20most%20spices%20with%20chocolate.%20Which%20is%20when%20I%20thought%20of%20the%20vanilla%20rum%20waiting%20to%20be%20used%20in%20our%20cupboard.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOtherwise%20I%20kept%20this%20drink%20pretty%20close%20to%20the%20original,%20which%20Turback%20got%20from%20Mary%20Sonnier%20at%20Restaurant%20Gabrielle%20in%20New%20Orleans%20(which%20as%20far%20as%20I%20could%20learn%20on%20the%20internet,%20no%20longer%20exists%E2%80%93please%20let%20me%20know%20if%20I%20am%20wrong).%20I%20did%20not%20use%20a%20coffee%20with%20chicory%20because%20I%20do%20not%20care%20for%20it,%20and%20I%20did%20not%20add%20additional%20sugar%20because%20I%20did%20not%20think%20it%20needed%20it%E2%80%93this%20may%20depend%20on%20your%20coffee%20and%20your%20chocolate.%20I%20used%20Williams%20Sonoma%E2%80%99s%20Classic%20Hot%20Chocolate,%20which%20is%20my%20standby%20for%20hot%20chocolate.%20For%20coffee%20I%20used%20Green%20Mountain%20Coffee%20Newman%E2%80%99s%20Special%20Blend%20K-cups%20and%20brewed%20only%204%20oz%20per%20K-cup.%20I%20also%20realized%20later%20that%20the%20recipe%20calls%20for%20using%20an%20immersion%20blender.%20On%20the%20one%20hand%20I%20am%20curious%20about%20this%20because%20the%20drink%20did%20separate%20a%20bit.%20On%20the%20other%20hand,%20from%20a%20taste%20perspective%20it%20was%20not%20noticeable%20and%20not%20worth%20the%20effort%20if%20you%20do%20not%20have%20one%20handy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20to%20say%20I%20fell%20in%20love%20is%20an%20understatement.%20The%20bottle%20of%20vanilla%20rum%20is%20long%20gone%20(don%E2%80%99t%20worry%20it%20was%20pretty%20small%E2%80%93we%20aren%E2%80%99t%20having%20that%20much%20fun%20here%20at%20our%20house%20this%20holiday%20season!)%20and%20peppermint%20hot%20chocolate%20now%20has%20some%20serious%20competition%20in%20Spiked%20Voodoo%20Mocha.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESpiked%20Voodoo%20Mocha%20%20%20Adapted%20from%20Michael%20Turback%20and%20Mary%20Sonnier%20%20Author:%20TheSpicedLife%20Recipe%20type:%20Drinks%20%20%20Ingredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20cups%20half-and-half%20or%20%C2%BD%20cup%20cream%20plus%201%C2%BD%20cups%202%25%20milk%206%20oz%20chopped%20semisweet%20chocolate%202%20cups%20strong%20coffee,%20decaf%20if%20desired,%20with%20chicory%20if%20desired%20%C2%BD%20cup%20vanilla%20rum%201-2%20T%20sugar,%20optional%20whipped%20cream%20for%20serving%20pinch%20of%20cayenne%20pepper%20for%20garnish,%20optional%20shaved%20chocolate%20for%20garnish,%20optional%20%20%20Instructions%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20the%20half-and-half%20(or%20milk%20and%20cream)%20over%20medium%20low%20heat%20until%20it%20is%20starting%20to%20steam.%20Whisk%20in%20the%20chocolate%20and%20coffee.%20Whisk%20until%20the%20chocolate%20has%20melted.%20Turn%20the%20heat%20all%20the%20way%20down%20and%20whisk%20in%20the%20rum.%20Taste%20for%20additional%20sugar--I%20did%20not%20want%20it.%20Pour%20into%204%20mugs.%20Top%20with%20whipped%20cream%20and%20the%20optional%20pin
