Рецепт Sloppy Joes
Sloppy Joes is a type of sandwich made of minced beef, onions, tomato sauce and/or ketchup, Worcestershire sauce served on a hamburger bun. Like pasta to the Italians, Ramen the Japanese these sandwich had been a staple in American households for more than 50 years now. It’s easy to make and very economical hence its popularity.
Like most popular dishes there are several claims on who, where and when it was created. First claim states that this dish was derived from the loose meat sandwich and was created but Floyd Angell an Iowa restaurateur in the mid-1920. His creation consists of minced beef, sauce (not tomato sauce or ketchup) and spices served on two slices of bread.
Second claim states that like Spam the minced beef were rationed during World War II due to the shortage of meat during the time, it was a way to stretch each families budget. This minced meat was then prepared with various sauces to make it last longer.
Another claim was from Hunt’s when they introduced its Manwich Sloppy Joe Sauce in 1969, so rather than making your own sauce at home they made a special blend for the Americans so they can enjoy it with minced beef in the easiest way possible.
Most of these claims sounds all plausible but they all talk about how it was created and what are its components but where did it get its name? Again there are lots of theories behind this but the most popular one was that this dish was named after the person who helped created the concept of this dish. An Iowa cook in one of Floyd Angell’s restaurant named Joe was the one responsible.
Today there many different variations and it’s not just limited to using minced beef, others use different sauces while other use different meats like chicken, turkey, pork and even seafood and vegetarian versions. Our post today will be the classic minced beef but instead of burger buns I will be using ciabattas.
