Рецепт Simple Spaghetti Squash, first impressions
With a dozen spaghetti squash curing in the sunshine it’s time to start eating them.
Last year I used one like I would pasta, making a meat sauce for it.
It was good…. But we really didn’t taste the squash.
Last week I made it with pesto. I used a lot of pesto but the flavor just seemed to get lost and it was all rather blah.
Last night I decided to just make it like a vegetable…. Novel idea, eh?
Simple Spaghetti Squash
Total time: 70 minutes
Ingredients:
- 1 spaghetti squash
- 1 tbs butter
- 1 tbs olive oil
- 1 tsp chives
- celery salt
- pepper
Instructions:
Cut the ends off the spaghetti squash. Stand it on end and cut it down the middle. Scoop out the seeds.
Place cut-side down in a baking dish, add water to a depth of 1/4 inch, cover and bake for 50 minutes at 400F, until the shell pierces easily.
Using a fork, scrape out the strands of squash and put into a bowl.
Add butter, oil, chives and stir will.
Add salt and pepper to taste.
We loved it. It had a mild, winter squash flavor, was slightly crunchy and delicious.
We have a new favorite.
Be warned that spaghetti squash are very hard. We cut them in half using a big cleaver and a wooden mallet.
I saw a bit on Facebook the other day on the importance of making a good first impression.
First impressions are lasting.
I’m always amazed that people don’t realize that.
I learned it on the golf course.
I knew it before that, of course but it was really brought home to me on the golf course.
The first tee, where one hits the first ball in a round of golf is normally in full view of the clubhouse.
That means that everyone in the clubhouse, in the bar, in the shop, wherever, can watch the first swing.
It’s a scary place…..
If you hit a fantastic shot, 250 yards, straight down the middle, perfect landing, the consensus among the people watching is that you are a good golfer. If every shot you make for the rest of the round is abysmal, skittering along the grass, hitting trees, going in the water, etc. the consensus is that you are a good golfer having a bad day.
If you’re first shot is a dud, going straight off to the left and lending 20 feet from where it started, the consensus is that you are a bad golfer…. Or, at least, not a good golfer. If you then proceed to have a stellar round, making perfect shot after perfect shot, sinking every putt, the consensus is that you are a mediocre golfer having one of those elusive lucky days.
It’s all about the first swing.
And that first impression can last an amazingly long time.
I know – having done it both ways.
My goal was to make a good first shot – not fantastic to raise expectations too high and not awful so I had to continually prove myself.
Since it’s Ryder Cup weekend I thought a golf story fitting.
Congratulations to the European Team.
