- Mix together the flour, baking powder, and salt
- Set aside
- In a large mixing bowl, beat the butter until softened
- Add the sugar
- Beat until fluffy
- Add to the flour mixture
- Beat all together
- Add the egg and the almond extract
- Blend all together
- Divide the dough into four equal parts
- Form each one into a 12 inch roll
- Place two of the rolls 4 to 5 inches apart on a non-greased cookie sheet
- Flatten the dough so it is about 3 inches wide.
- Repeat with the last two rolls
- Brush with the milk
- Sprinkle with the sliced almonds
- Bake at 325 F for 12 to 14 minutes
- Edges should be slightly browned
- Cut into 1-inch diagonal strips while the bars are still warm
- Cool and then drizzle with the almond Icing
- Almond Icing:
- Stir together the powdered sugar and the almond extract.
- Add the milk to make a thin consistency
- Drizzle over the bars
