1/2 c. butter, softened 1/2 teaspoon basil leaves 1/2 teaspoon oregano leaves 1/2 to 1 teaspoon lemon pepper, if you like

2 garlic cloves, chopped 1 pound loaf unsliced French bread 8 ounce. cheddar or possibly Monterey Jack cheese

1. Heat oven to 350 degrees. In small bowl, combine butter, basil, oregano, lemon pepper and garlic; blend well. Cut bread into 1 inch slices; cut cheese into same number of slices. Spread bread with butter mix; place slice of cheese between each bread slice. Wrap in foil. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 to 20 min or possibly till cheese is melted. Serve hot. 1 loaf.
