%20or%20Rutabaga%20(North%20America)%20as%20they%20are%20also%20called%20%20They%20are%20the%20ones%20with%20the%20purple%20skin%20and%20the%20yellow%20flesh%20inside.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20were%20always%20my%20favourite%20part%20of%20holiday%20dinners%20when%20I%20was%20growing%20up.%20%20My%20mom%20used%20to%20mash%20them%20together%20with%20potatoes%20so%20that%20they%20were%20not%20really%20strong%20flavoured.%20%20Over%20here%20it%20is%20called%20Tatties%20and%20Neeps.%20I%20love%20them%20in%20any%20way%20shape%20or%20form.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBelieve%20it%20or%20not,%20turnips%20are%20one%20of%20those%20root%20vegetables%20that%20actually%20have%20an%20underlying%20sweetness%20which%20can%20be%20greatly%20enhanced%20when%20you%20cook%20them.%20%20It's%20subtle%20for%20sure%20.%20.%20.%20%20but%20I%20find%20the%20addition%20of%20a%20tiny%20bit%20of%20brown%20sugar,%20always%20brings%20out%20the%20natural%20sweetness%20even%20more%20and%20makes%20a%20big%20difference.%20%20This%20recipe%20here%20today%20is%20my%20absolute%20favourite%20way%20to%20prepare%20them.%20%20It's%20simple%20.%20.%20.%20it's%20quick%20and%20%20.%20.%20.%20it's%20delicious!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Before%20Cooking)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20I%20lived%20in%20South%20Western%20Ontario,%20back%20in%20Canada,%20many%20moons%20ago,%20there%20was%20a%20Mennonite%20Restaurant%20and%20Bakery%20we%20used%20to%20go%20to%20every%20now%20and%20again%20in%20St%20Jacob's%20(Millbank).%20%20It%20was%20called%20Anna%20Mae's%20and%20they%20had%20the%20most%20delicious%20menu,%20all%20homemade%20foods,%20%20beautiful%20roast%20dinners,%20gorgeous%20pies,%20bread,%20etc.%20%20%20They%20had%20the%20best%20way%20with%20turnips.%20%20I%20used%20to%20LOVE%20their%20turnips%20and%20I%20researched%20how%20to%20do%20them%20and%20found%20out%20their%20secret%20and%20this%20is%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(After%20Cooking)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThey%20grate%20them%20and%20then%20they%20saute%20them%20quickly%20in%20a%20bit%20of%20butter.%20%20%20They%20are%20not%20boiled.%20They%20are%20not%20mashed.%20%20Normally%20it%20can%20take%20quite%20a%20while%20to%20boil%20turnips%20until%20they%20are%20ready%20to%20be%20mashed,%20especially%20the%20larger%20ones.%20%20These%20go%20together%20lickety%20split,%20especially%20if%20you%20have%20a%20food%20processor%20to%20do%20all%20the%20grating.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThese%20are%20quite%20simply%20delicious.%20%20%20There%20is%20no%20other%20word%20to%20describe%20them.%20%20Buttery.%20%20%20Slightly%20sweet.%20%20%20Oh%20so%20tasty.%20I%20could%20sit%20down%20to%20a%20plate%20of%20these%20and%20nothing%20else,%20but%20they%20do%20make%20the%20most%20fantastic%20side%20dish%20with%20a%20roast%20dinner%20.%20.%20.%20%20pork,%20beef%20or%20turkey%20or%20chicken.%20%20Take%20your%20pick.%20%20%20These%20simple%20old%20fashioned%20dishes%20are%20my%20favourite%20kinds%20of%20dishes.%20%20They%20just%20never%20get%20old.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E*Sauteed%20Yellow%20Turnips*%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(Also%20known%20as%20Swede%20or%20Rutabaga)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServes%206%20to%208%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eback%20in%20the%201990's%20when%20I%20ate%20at%20a%20Mennonite%20Restaurant%20in%20St%20Jacob's,%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOntario,%20in%20Canada.%20%20%20It%20was%20delicious.%20%20I%20searched%20and%20searched%20for%20a%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Erecipe,%20but%20couldn't%20find%20one.%20%20%20I%20experimented%20and%20this%20is%20what%20I%20came%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eup%20with%20which%20is%20very%20close%20to%20the%20way%20theirs%20tasted.%20I've%20been%20doing%20my%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eswede%20this%20way%20ever%20since.%20%20Much%20better%20than%20just%20boiled.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esalt%20and%20black%20pepper.%20%20Serve%20hot.%20%20Delicious!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
