.%20I%20was%20headed%20to%20a%20friend's%20place%20in%20%C5%9Ei%C5%9Fli%20which%20requires%20a%20trip%20on%20the%20metro.%20As%20I%20was%20headed%20toward%20the%20exit%20I%20noticed%20a%20group%20of%20three%20or%20four%20men,%20also%20headed%20toward%20the%20exit%20turnstiles,%20veer%20away%20from%20the%20exit%20to%20where%20a%20security%20guard%20was%20standing.%20Thinking%20nothing%20of%20it,%20I%20passed%20through%20a%20turnstile%20and%20veered%20left%20to%20the%20exit%20I%20needed.%20Then%20the%20world%20exploded!%20The%20men%20I'd%20noticed%20earlier%20attacked%20a%20security%20guard.%20Several%20more%20guards%20rushed%20in%20as%20the%20brawling%20group%20moved%20quickly%20across%20the%20station%20(in%20the%20same%20direction%20I%20needed%20to%20go).%20And%20then%20the%20gun%20came%20out.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20guard%20pulled%20his%20gun%20and%20started%20waving%20it%20around.%20That%20is%20when%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethe%20majority%20of%20bystanders%20who%20moments%20ago%20were%20merely%20curious%20as%20to%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewhat%20was%20going%20on,%20myself%20included,%20hit%20the%20walls.%20I%20stood%20with%20a%20group%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eof%20people%20near%20a%20bank%20of%20ATMs,%20hoping%20that%20the%20machines%20would%20take%20any%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebullets%20instead%20of%20me.%20All%20I%20could%20think%20was,%20%22Fantastic.%20The%20absolute%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Elast%20thing%20I%20need%20is%20to%20get%20shot%20in%20fracking%20Turkey.%22%20And%20to%20my%20absolute%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebewilderment,%20while%2085%25%20of%20people%20in%20the%20station%20were%20doing%20their%20best%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eto%20stay%20clear%20of%20whatever%20the%20heck%20was%20going%20down,%20the%20other%2015%25%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eapparently%20had%20no%20sense%20and/or%20self%20preservation%20instincts%20because%20they%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Econtinued%20to%20mosey%20on%20past%20the%20gun%20waving%20group%20of%20fighting%20idiots.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ereally%20curious%20as%20to%20what%20made%20these%20guys%20decide%20to%20attack%20an%20armed%20man.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EEventually%20the%20other%20guards%20separated%20the%20fighters%20and%20wrestled%20the%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eidiots%20out%20of%20the%20station;%20unfortunately%20out%20the%20same%20exit%20I%20needed%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ethough.%20I%20stayed%20put%20by%20the%20ATMs%20until%20dude%20(who%20was%20still%20waving%20around%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ehis%20gun%20while%20yelling%20at%20the%20departing%20idiots)%20also%20left%20the%20station.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI've%20never%20been%20so%20glad%20to%20be%20of%20drinking%20age%20and%20helped%20my%20friend%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Esample%20the%20vats%20of%20punch%20she'd%20made%20(vodka,%20satsuma%20(clementine?%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ewhatever)%20juice,%20and%20thyme%20gets%20two%20thumbs%20up).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAll%20that%20and%20I%20was%20still%20the%20first%20person%20to%20arrive!%20While%20waiting%20for%20the%20situation%20to%20clear%20I%20was%20at%20least%20happy%20that,%20were%20it%20my%20time,%20I%20would%20have%20died%20after%20enjoying%20the%20successful%20labors%20of%20my%20first%20ever%20attempt%20at%20making%20sticky%20buns.%20While%20I%20usually%20eschew%20short%20cuts%20like%20mixes%20or%20pre-made%20doughs,%20my%20inability%20to%20find%20many/afford%20certain%20ingredients%20and%20implements%20has%20made%20me%20get%20over%20myself%20a%20little.%20When%20I%20found%20a%20recipe%20for%20sticky%20buns%20using%20defrosted%20phyllo%20dough%20I%20was%20more%20than%20happy%20to%20try%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDude.%20Phyllo%20dough,%20puff%20pastry,%20something%20in%20the%20family...whatever%20it%20was%20I%20bought%20created%20some%20sort%20of%20salted%20caramel%20sticky%20bun%20baklava%20chimera.%20A%20beautiful,%20nutty,%20gooey,%20sticky,%20chimera.%20Life%20as%20I%20know%20it%20will%20never%20again%20be%20the%20same.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERecipe%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPre%20heat%20oven%20to%20350F%20and%20grease%20a%209x9%20baking%20dish.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20the%20butter%20and%20whisk%20in%20the%20brown%20sugar.%20Pour%20into%20dish%20and%20sprinkle%20with%20chopped%20nuts.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESprinkle%20cinnamon%20to%20taste%20and%20pre%20made%20salted%20caramel%20on%20the%20dough.%20Roll%20into%20some%20sort%20of%20approximation%20of%20what%20a%20sticky%20bun%20should%20look%20like.%20Be%20careful%20that%20you%20don't%20handle%20the%20dough%20too%20much%20as%20it%20will%20quickly%20lose%20its%20integrity.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20buns%20in%20the%20dish%20in%20the%20butter/sugar%20mixture.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBake%20for%20about%2025-30%20minutes%20or%20until%20the%20uncovered%20part%20of%20the%20buns%20are%20a%20nice%20golden%20brown.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhen%20they%20come%20out%20of%20the%20oven,%20spoon%20some%20of%20the%20caramel%20mixture%20over%20the%20top%20buns%20a%20couple%20times.%20After%20they've%20cooled%20slightly%20(don't%20let%20them%20cool%20too%20much%20because%20the%20caramel%20might%20harden%20in%20the%20pan)%20turn%20over%20on%20to%20a%20plate%20and%20scrape%20remaining%20caramel%20over%20the%20buns.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
