Review of 300 Best Stir-Fry Recipes

Nancie McDermott’s 300 Best Stir-Fry Recipes is full of great ideas for last minute weeknight dinners, such as this Sweet-and-Salty Shrimp with Pineapple and Carrots. A copy of this cookbook was provided to me in exchange for an honest review; affiliate links were used in this post to link to items I am discussing.
Unfortunately I do not have a recipe for you today, as Robert Rose (the publisher) prefers reviewers not share any but a handful of recipes–and being the contrarian I am I always want to make one not on the list. Alas.

%20prefers%20reviewers%20not%20share%20any%20but%20a%20handful%20of%20recipes%E2%80%93and%20being%20the%20contrarian%20I%20am%20I%20always%20want%20to%20make%20one%20not%20on%20the%20list.%20Alas.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99ve%20mentioned%20before%20with%20Robert%20Rose%20publications%E2%80%93the%20packaging%20is%20not%20really%20what%20you%20buy%20a%20Robert%20Rose%20book%20for.%20They%20are%20very%20utilitarian,%20with%20a%20smattering%20of%20photos%20and%20not%20much%20in%20the%20way%20of%20headnotes.%20But%20for%20someone%20looking%20for%20a%20good%20selection%20of%20any%20particular%20kind%20of%20recipe%20(I%E2%80%99ve%20enjoyed%20cookies,%20bars%20and%20brownies,%20healthy%20slow%20cooker%20dishes,%20and%20easy%20Indian%20dishes%20so%20far),%20Robert%20Rose%20cookbooks%20are%20a%20great%20starting%20point.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20was%20instantly%20intrigued%20by%20300%20Best%20Stir-Fry%20Recipes%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Ebecause%20I%20am%20familiar%20with%20Nancie%20McDermott%E2%80%99s%20work;%20her%20The%20Curry%20Book:%20Memorable%20Flavors%20and%20Irresistible%20Recipes%20From%20Around%20the%20World%20is%20the%20book%20that%20launched%20my%20love%20affair%20with%20Thai%20food,%20for%20example.%20Real%20Thai:%20The%20Best%20of%20Thailand%E2%80%99s%20Regional%20Cooking%20and%20Quick%20&%20Easy%20Vietnamese:%2075%20Everyday%20Recipes%20were%20both%20early%20introductions%20for%20me%20to%20those%20cuisines.%20So%20the%20first%20big%20plus%20to%20the%20book%20is%20Nancie%20McDermott%E2%80%93she%20knows%20her%20Asian%20cuisines.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20other%20great%20thing%20about%20300%20Best%20Stir-Fry%20Recipes%20is%20just%20the%20sheer%20breadth%20of%20choices%20for%20a%20style%20of%20cooking%20that%20is%20by%20its%20very%20nature%20fast.%20As%20long%20as%20ingredients%20are%20not%20a%20problem%E2%80%93and%20these%20recipes%20do%20not%20call%20for%20lots%20of%20unusual%20ingredients%E2%80%93you%20can%20choose%20and%20make%20dinner%20within%20an%20hour%20or%20less%20depending%20on%20your%20prepping/knife%20skills.%20And%20not%20all%20of%20the%20dishes%20are%20Asian,%20although%20clearly%20many%20are.%20Some%20other%20examples%20include%20Linguini%20with%20Hot%20Italian%20Sausage%20and%20Sweet%20Peppers;%20a%20Southern%20influenced%20Egg%20Noodles%20with%20Spicy%20Ham%20and%20Greens;%20Stir%20Fried%20Rice%20%C3%A1%20la%20BLT;%20Hoppin%E2%80%99%20John%E2%80%99s%20Stir%20Fried%20Rice;%20and%20Jerk%20Style%20Catfish%20with%20Cherry%20Tomatoes.%20There%20are%20meat,%20poultry,%20seafood%20and%20vegetarian%20options,%20as%20well%20as%20chapters%20on%20both%20rice%20and%20noodles.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20chose%20to%20make%20the%20Sweet-and-Salty%20Shrimp%20with%20Pineapple%20and%20Carrots;%20I%20love%20the%20sweet%20and%20salty%20combination,%20and%20was%20intrigued%20by%20the%20pineapple%20and%20carrots.%20Also,%20as%20I%20have%20mentioned%20before,%20canned%20pineapple%20is%20one%20of%20my%20pantry%20fallbacks%20that%20I%20look%20to%20for%20inspiration.%20The%20dish%20is%20a%20unique%20take%20a%20on%20a%20Thai%20stir%20fry,%20balancing%20sweet,%20salty%20and%20sour%20flavors%20with%20refreshing%20ingredients.%20The%20entire%20family%20loved%20it.%20I%20loved%20that%20it%20used%20ingredients%20I%20have%20on%20hand%E2%80%93frozen%20shrimp,%20canned%20pineapple,%20onions,%20cilantro,%20carrots,%20fish%20sauce,%20oyster%20sauce%20and%20soy%20sauce%E2%80%93and%20required%20no%20special%20trips.%20Served%20with%20Jasmine%20rice,%20the%20dish%20was%20a%20winner.%20And%20so%20is%20the%20book.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
