Рецепт Quick and easy meals with Success® Brown Rice
by Anne-Marie Nichols

I’m always on the lookout for healthy food products that are also convenient to use. That’s why I like products like frozen precut vegetables and prewashed tubs of salad greens. Even if you have to pay a little more, the convenience often encourages you to eat healthier, which is half the battle.

So when I was asked to prepare a meal with Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice, I thought I’d give it a try. I have a rice cooker and use it to make brown rice as well as white rice. But it takes forever. Even though I start the rice cooker before anything I cook up the meal, we’re often waiting around for the brown rice to finish cooking. It really puts the damper on making a quick meal with brown rice and I often switch to something like quinoa, though even that takes up to 25 minutes prepare.

Cooking with Success Rice

At first, I didn’t have didn’t have high hopes for Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice. I had used other “instant” brown rice brands before and wasn’t too pleased with the results. The texture of the other brands was strange, almost puffy, and the rice lacked flavor. However, Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice had a chewy texture, a nut-like flavor, and it cooked up perfectly both times I used it.

I’m guessing it has something to do with cooking the rice in the bags instead of directly in water. I cooked mine on the stove top. I put three quarts of water in a large saucepan and submerged two bags of Success Brown Rice in the water. Then I brought the water to a boil over high heat and boiled them uncovered for 8 minutes. I then dumped the bags into a colander, though you can remove the bags with some tongs. Then you cut open the bags to serve.

You can put the Success® Rice in a bowl and add butter and salt if you wish. Or serve the Success® Rice right out of the bags on to your plate, so you don’t have to create another dirty dish.

Creating side dishes and entrees with Success® Rice

Since I needed to make a side dish that night to go along with some steak we grilling, I started sautéing some frozen vegetables and sliced mushrooms in a pan with some olive oil as I was cooking up the Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice. When the vegetables were cooked through, I added the cooked rice to the pan and stirred to combine. I then added some seasonings to taste and had a delicious and healthy side dish in about 20 minutes.

Another night, I took a bag of frozen succotash and sautéed that with some sliced up apple and turkey sausage. I added the Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice and finished it with a little instant broth made with water and bouillon crystals. (If your grocery store doesn’t have frozen succotash, you can make your own blend from frozen corn, peppers and lima beans.) This entrée took about 15 minutes to make since the turkey sausage was precooked and only needed to be heated up.

Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice is 100% whole grain and gluten free. The chewy texture and nut-like flavor provide a tasty alternative from other rice products and is guaranteed perfect every time. When cooked, Success® Brown Rice can be used in a variety of recipes from salads, soups, main entrees to desserts just like white rice. Success® Whole-Grain Brown Rice is available in two sizes (14 oz. and 32 oz.) to accommodate various household sizes and consumers seeking whole-grain foods like brown rice.
