I was never into making homemade pretzels. Why when purchasing them is so much easier.

Have you ever tasted a homemade pretzel?

Wowzers!

Boy are these good and addictive. I like to serve them with my homemade Banana Pepper Honey Mustard.

These keep for about a week so you can make them a bit ahead of time. Just make sure you keep them away from everyone. These little guys are so addictive that you will not be able to control yourself. They will be gone before you know it and then you will have to make more. Better yet maybe you should make a double batch.

Yield: 50 bites

Total Time: 30

Ingredients:

Directions:

Preheat oven to 450 degrees Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper or spray with cooking spray.

Combine the yeast, milk and brown sugar in the bowl of a stand mixer. Allow to bloom for 5 minutes. It should get bubbly. That means the yeast is working. Once it looks good and bubbly, add the flour and mix on low speed until combined. Add salt and combine until smooth, it should begin to pull away from the side of the bowl. Dough should be tacky not sticky when you pull it out of the bowl. Cut into four even pieces and roll them out into a rope about 18-10 inches long. Cut each of the ropes into 1 inch pieces.

Meanwhile fill a 8 quart pot with water and bring to a boil. Once it is boiling add the baking soda.

Plop the pieces of dough into the boiling water 5-10 at a time. Remove from water after 30 seconds or so. Place each on parchment paper and continue until all the pieces of dough have been boiled.

In a small bowl beat egg and 2 tablespoons water with a fork.

Brush the egg wash on the boiled pieces of dough and sprinkle with salt.

Bake for 10-15 minutes or until tips are golden brown.

Peace be with you,
