Рецепт Plum Crisps, Single Serving Size; News!!!
by Katie Zeller

First: The food

We had a good year with our little plums.

We have both the yellow Mirabelles and red ones the same size that I don’t know the name of. They’re only slightly bigger than a cherry.

I’ve made lots of jam and several clafoutis

Bonnie and Guapa have eaten as many as they can before I chase them off.

And now…. A crisp (or crumble for the Brits).

I’ve never made a plum crisp before, but why not?

This would work for any plum, peach or nectarine – just cut to an appropriate size.

This recipes is for two single serving Crisps.

Plum Crisps, Single Serving Size

Total time: 45 minutes

Ingredients:

Instructions:

Butter individual baking dishes or one small baking dish.

Mix sugar, spices, flour and oats.

Cut in butter, using a pastry cutter, 2 knives or forks, until it resembles small pebbles.

Stone the plums and cut in half (slice if large), arrange in dishes

Sprinkle crumble mixture evenly over plums.

Bake 30 minutes at 375F (185C), until top is brown and plums are bubbling.

Note: If you use individual baking dishes, put them on a baking sheet to make handling easier.

Second: The big news

In the Wall Street Journal this week:

Hungry? 14 Expat Food Blogs to Read Right Now

This little blog, Thyme for Cooking, is one of the 14.

I’m so excited and thrilled to be included. Go, read the article and do some armchair traveling around the globe.

Last: The latest chez nous…..

Remember how simple life used to be?

I do.

I remember, way back in the beginning of time, when one plugged a TV into an electrical outlet, turned it on and it worked. The only ‘settings’ one had to worry about was turning the knob (it’s a round thing that was on the front of the TV) to select a channel.

We got a new, small TV for the kitchen. We are only a two television family, and one is always in the kitchen to watch while we make dinner in the evening and eat breakfast in the morning.

Remember, earlier this summer we had to buy a new washing machine. We bought it on a three month, interest free finance plan.

Then we needed a new dryer. They suggested we get a store credit card in order to put the dryer on a five month interest free plan. So we did.

The store credit card cost us 15 euro, but that’s okay because we got a store credit of 55 euro for opening the account. Then, when we got the card in the mail there was a 15 euro gift certificate with it.

Are you following that?

Are you wondering how they make a profit?

Anyway, we decided to use our 70 euro to get a new TV for the kitchen as the old one was, well, old.

The cable that we used to connect the old TV to the cable box doesn’t work with the new TV.

I had to order a new scart cable online (good old Amazon). We need one that’s 60′ long as it has to go under the floor to get from the box in the den to the TV in the kitchen.

We don’t have it yet so we can’t actually watch the news or anything else..

But, we do have an HDMI cable. Well, we have two of them but we had to buy a connector to make one that was long enough….

With the HDMI cable we can connect my computer to the new TV and watch YouTube videos…..

On the one hand, nothing is simple, easy or straight-forward.

On the other hand, the choices we have are amazing.

On the third hand, do we really need 500 channels? Plus NetFlix? And YouTube?
