- Heat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease 2 (9- by 5-inch) loaf pans and set aside.
- Cream the butter and sugar in a large mixing bowl.
- Beat the egg yolks then beat into the butter and sugar with the nutmeg, wine and rosewater. Stir in the flour.
- Beat the egg whites till moderately stiff, 3 to 5 min, and fold into the mix. Divide the batter between the loaf pans and smooth the tops.
- Bake the loaves till light brown and a toothpick inserted in the middle comes out clean, 1 1/2 hrs. Cold the loaves in the pan slightly, then turn out onto wire racks.
- This recipe yields 24 slices.
