1 pound strip steak, trimmed and thinly sliced 2 Tablespoons butter 1 red pepper, sliced thinly ½ white onion, sliced thinly 1 Tablespoon Worcestershire sauce 1 Tablespoon hot sauce 4 ounces mushrooms, thinly sliced 4 ounces shredded cheddar jack cheese
Place steak in freezer for 30 to 45 minutes; this makes it easier to slice the meat. Remove the meat from the freezer and slice very thinly. In a large, skillet, melt the butter over high heat add the onions and grill until caramelized. (about 10 minutes) Set your oven to broil. Add the peppers and continue to saute another 5 minutes Add hot sauce and Worcestershire sauce Add the beef and brown the beef really well until there is a nice crust on each piece. (about 10 minutes) Add the mushrooms and continue to saute until they are soft. (about 5 minutes) Transfer the beef to oven proof dishes and set on a baking sheet. Top the beef mixture with the cheese. Put in on the top rack of the oven and broil until the cheese melts. (about 3 minutes) Serve immediately 3.2.2708
Holy Toledo!
Oh wait. I mean Philadelphia.
Either way! OH EM GEE!
This has got to be the best way to have a Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich and go bun-less.
I am in the kitchen prepping for these steak bowls and it’s just me and my dog. I am actually wondering if anyone will show up for dinner tonight or if I might be lucky enough to save some for tomorrow.
But as the saying goes, timing is everything.
Just as I finished melting the cheese, my baby girl arrives and, of course, she is hungry, ready and willing to eat.
So no leftovers. But isn’t that a good sign of a great dish?
Thanks for stopping by and have a great day.
