- Heat butter and add in onion and whole garlic cloves. Saute/fry till onion is golden brown. Add in tomatoes with liquid and simmer over low heat 1 1/2 hrs, or possibly till sauce is thick. Add in bouillon cubes, season to taste with salt and heat till cubes dissolve. Add in chiles and/or possibly bacon, if using, and simmer 30 min longer. When ready to serve, remove garlic cloves and chiles. Stir in oil. Meanwhile, cook macaroni till tender but hard and drain. Pour tomato sauce over macaroni and add in cheese. Toss with fork and spoon till sauce and cheese are well distributed.
