%20pasta%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESometimes%20I%20come%20across%20recipes%20in%20very%20unusual%20ways.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhich%20I%20totally%20love,%20because,%20to%20me,%20it%20is%20extra%20evidence%20of%20the%20whole%20small%20world,%20six%20degrees%20of%20separation%20phenomenon.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20don't%20think%20it's%20all%20just%20coincidence.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20example,%20straw%20and%20hay%20pasta.%20Yeah,%20sounds%20really%20appetizing,%20right?%20%22Let's%20eat%20some%20straw%20and%20hay!%22%20So%20you%20can%20believe%20me%20when%20I%20say%20that%20I%20was%20not%20googling%20%22straw%20and%20hay%20for%20dinner%22%20or%20anything%20even%20close%20to%20that%20when%20I%20stumbled%20upon%20this.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(I%20may%20have%20a%20new%20barn%20but%20as%20of%20yet%20no%20animals%20that%20require%20straw%20or%20hay:%20that's%20not%20how%20El%20Jefe%20and%20The%20Ninjette%20roll.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20I%20was%20googling%20was%20Vermont%20food%20blog,%20to%20see%20how%20many,%20if%20any,%20other%20folks%20like%20me%20are%20out%20there.%20(In%20case%20you're%20curious,%20nearly%20none,%20but%20that's%20not%20really%20what%20this%20post%20is%20about.%20It's%20about%20straw%20and%20hay,%20right?)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAs%20is%20the%20way%20of%20search%20engine%20optimization,%20I%20got%20some%20interesting%20results%20(SEO%20is%20clearly%20very%20ninja-like%20--%20can't%20be%20explained%20or%20totally%20comprehended%20by%20mere%20mortals,%20ha%20ha%20ha).%20One%20that%20piqued%20my%20interest%20was%20a%20restaurant%20review%20from%20the%20Atlanta%20Journal%20Constitution%20(AJC).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E(See%20what%20I%20mean%20about%20SEO?%20Completely%20bizarro.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAJC%20restaurant%20reviewer%20and%20staffer%20John%20Kessler%20had%20posted%20a%20blog%20entry%20about%20some%20of%20his%20restaurant%20experiences%20while%20on%20a%20vacation%20this%20summer%20in%20the%20Adirondacks%20/%20Vermont%20/%20Montreal%20area.%20I%20was%20happy%20to%20read%20his%20post%20because%20he%20had%20eaten%20at%20and%20discussed%20two%20restaurants%20high%20on%20my%20radar:%20the%20Farm%20House%20Tap%20and%20Grill%20here%20in%20Burlington%20(which%20I%20love%20for%20not%20only%20their%20great%20food%20but%20commitment%20to%20local%20ingredients)%20and%20Joe%20Beef%20in%20Montreal%20(where%20I%20am%20freakin'%20dying%20to%20dine%20one%20of%20these%20days).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELong%20story%20short,%20Kessler%20described%20the%20pasta%20dish%20he%20ate%20at%20Joe%20Beef%20as%20being%20a%20riff%20on%20%22paglia%20e%20fieno%20%E2%80%94%20i.e.,%20'straw%20and%20hay,'%20an%20iconic%20Italian%20pasta%20dish%20of%20spinach%20and%20plain%20fettuccine%20tossed%20with%20cream%20and%20prosciutto%20and%20peas.%22%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIconic%20Italian?%20Yet%20I%20had%20totally%20never%20even%20heard%20of%20this%20dish!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20I%20started%20investigating%20(yes,%20yes,%20I%20clearly%20spend%20way%20too%20much%20of%20my%20day%20googling%20crap,%20I%20think%20that's%20abundantly%20clear).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETurns%20out%20he's%20right.%20It's%20a%20traditional%20northern%20Italian%20dish%20made%20with%20two%20different%20kinds%20of%20pasta%20(usually%20tagliatelle),%20one%20plain,%20one%20green,%20which%20is%20what%20gives%20it%20the%20%22straw%20and%20hay%22%20monniker.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EClearly%20I%20had%20to%20give%20this%20a%20whirl.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EResult?%20Italian%20awesomesauce%20--%20like%20you%20would%20have%20expected%20anything%20less%20from%20something%20with%20a%20cheesy%20cream%20sauce%20and%20prosciutto.%20(I%20think%20I%20would%20have%20tried%20it%20even%20if%20the%20name%20was%20%22old%20shoe%20and%20prosciutto%20with%20cheesy%20cream%20sauce.%22)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20also%20really%20liked%20that%20is%20was%20an%20easy%20dish%20to%20prepare,%20perfect%20for%20a%20quick%20weeknight%20meal%20or,%20as%20in%20my%20case,%20after%20you%20return%20home%20from%20a%20weekend%20trip.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20used%20elements%20from%20several%20different%20recipes%20I%20found%20online%20but%20got%20the%20most%20inspiration%20from%20Karista's%20Kitchen.%20So%20thanks%20to%20her.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ENow,%20hopefully,%20if%20I%20have%20played%20my%20SEO%20cards%20right,%20the%20next%20person%20that%20googles%20%22Vermont%20food%20blog%22%20might%20learn%20a%20little%20more%20about%20straw%20and%20hay%20...%20among%20other%20things.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPaglia%20e%20fieno%20(straw%20and%20hay%20pasta)%20--%20adapted%20from%20Karista's%20Kitchen%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECook%20pasta%20until%20al%20dente%20(usually%20about%201%20minute%20less%20than%20what%20the%20package%20indicates).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20the%20pasta%20is%20cooking,%20in%20a%20saucepan%20heat%20the%20butter%20and%20olive%20oil%20over%20medium%20heat%20until%20hot%20and%20bubbly.%20Add%20the%20onion%20and%20cook%20for%20about%203-5%20minutes.%20Stir%20in%20the%20mushroom%20and%20garlic%20and%20cook%20for%20another%20few%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELower%20the%20heat%20a%20bit%20and%20add%20the%20cream.%20Simmer%20until%20slightly%20thickened,%20stirring%20often.%20When%20it%20reaches%20the%20consistency%20you%20like,%20stir%20in%20the%20peas,%20proscuitto%20and%20cheese,%20stirring%20until%20the%20cheese%20melts.%20Season%20with%20salt%20and%20pepper%20to%20taste%20(you%20might%20want%20to%20add%20a%20little%20dash%20of%20Tabasco,%20too%20--%20yum).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdd%20to%20the%20cooked,%20drained%20pasta%20and%20mix%20gently%20but%20thoroughly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20each%20portion%20topped%20with%20a%20little%20more%20parmesan%20cheese.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
