- 1/3 c. sugar
- 2 whl cardamom pods crushed
- 2 whl allspice
- 1 x cinnamon stick
- 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 lrg oranges peel and white pith

- 1/3 x "-thick slices
- 3 x kiwis peeled, and
- Â Â cut crosswise into 1/3"-thick slices
- 2 Tbsp. sliced almonds toasted

- Stir first 5 ingredients in small saucepan over medium-high heat till sugar dissolves. Bring to boil. Reduce heat; simmer till liquid is syrupy and slightly reduced, about 8 min. Remove from heat. Stir in vanilla.
- Arrange orange and kiwi slices in shallow bowl. Pour warm syrup and spices over fruit. Refrigerateat least 1 hour and up to 4 hrs. Sprinkle almonds over; serve.
- This recipe yields 6 servings.
- Comments: Oranges and kiwis are among the fruits highest in calcium; almonds are the nuts with the most. This is a light and refreshing finish to any meal.
