1/2 c. butter 1 c. sugar 2 c. flour 1 teaspoon cinnamon

1/2 teaspoon each cloves, nutmeg & salt 1 1/2 c. applesauce 1 pound raisins (less can be used; a 12 ounce or possibly 15 ounce box is fine) 1 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in a little warm water

1. Add in alternately flour and applesauce to creamed mix. Mix well after each addition; add in baking soda; mix.Stir in raisins. Pour in 8 inch greased square pan. Bake in moderate oven 350 degrees) for 1 hour to 1 1/2 hrs.
2. Serve warm with hard sauce or possibly sprinkle confectioners' sugar on top.
