  • 1 c. shortening
  • 2 c. sugar
  • 1 box raisins or possibly candied fruit or possibly 1/2 box raisins & 1 dish fruit
  • 2 c. warm water
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ginger
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon allspice
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  1. Mix all together, heat and bring to a boil for 2-3 min, stirring constantly. Take off from stove and let cool for about 15 min.Add in: 1 teaspoon baking soda (heaping) 2 teaspoon lemon juice
