Рецепт Not So Sweet, Sloppy Joe!
by Pam's Midwest Kitchen Korner

Tradition here in our family is a huge dinner for Christmas Eve ~ and Christmas Day is all about sloppy joes! I’ve tried a plethora of sloppy joe recipes with just not quite the right mix of ingredients, usually all a little more sweet than to our liking.   I happened to have a bottle of "78 Red Spicy Ketchup" in the refrigerator and used it instead of the Heinz ketchup I generally use.   I make a lot and use the electric skillet:  3 pounds of ground beef, 2 pounds of 85% and 1 pound of 95%.  It’s way to dry using only 90% or 95% ground beef.  After the meat browned and onion and bell pepper cooked, 78 Red Spicy Ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, a little chili powder, salt, a sprinkle of red pepper flakes, salt and pepper, a very small amount of brown sugar, and a dab of tomato paste for thickening, were simmered until thickened.  A perfect blend of ingredients for us!  We all thought they were the absolute best sloppy joes we’ve had, good and tasty and not overly-sweet. Woo hoo, this is it!!!   The leftover meat was oh, so good for lunch the next day... SLOPPY JOES, THE BEST! Printable recipe NOTE:  This makes a lot, enough for 16 servings. Ingredients: ½ green bell pepper, minced 1 large yellow onion, chopped 3 cloves garlic, minced 2 pounds 85% ground beef 1 pound 95% ground beef 3 tablespoons tomato paste 2 cups 78 Red Spicy Ketchup 1 cup water 1 tablespoon brown sugar 1 tablespoon yellow mustard 1½ tablespoons Worcestershire sauce 2 tablespoons chili powder 1½ teaspoons kosher salt 1 teaspoon black pepper ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes, optional Method: Set electric skillet to 350° (or use large skillet on stove-top). Add bell pepper, onion and garlic to skillet and cook for a minute.
Add meat and cook until beef browns and breaks apart into crumbles, about 10 minutes, push meat to side and drain well. Add remaining ingredients, stir well to combine. Cook for 15-30 minutes until cooked through and thickened to your liking.
Remove from heat. Serve over toasted buns. Enjoy!
