%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20day%20after%20our%20big%20move%20down%20here,%20I%20sat%20down%20on%20our%20couch%20and%20turned%20on%20the%20TV%20to%20see%20what%20food%20programming%20Hulu%20had%20to%20offer%20that%20could%20satiate%20my%20normal%20ritual%20of%20watching%20Food%20Network%20no%20matter%20how%20much%20(or%20little)%20I%20liked%20the%20actual%20shows.%20Almost%20immediately%20I%20found%20Nigellissima%E2%80%93a%20love%20letter%20from%20Nigella%20Lawson%20to%20Italian%20food%E2%80%93and%20I%20immediately%20fell%20in%20love.%20Much%20like%20Made%20in%20Spain,%20she%20splits%20her%20time%20between%20being%20in%20Italy%20and%20back%20in%20her%20London%20flat%20for%20cooking,%20and%20every%20episode%E2%80%93all%20six%20of%20them%E2%80%93is%20as%20comforting%20and%20soothing%20to%20watch%20as%20you%E2%80%99d%20expect%20from%20a%20Nigella%20show.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETagliata%20for%20Two%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhat%20I%20love%20about%20her%20is%20that%20she%20has%20a%20very%20explorer-like%20approach%20to%20food.%20While%20she%E2%80%99ll%20present%20her%20spin%20on%20things,%20she%20also%20will%20show%20you%20some%20of%20the%20thought%20behind%20how%20she%20got%20to%20that%20point.%20A%20great%20example%20is%20when%20she%20discusses%20pesto%20Trapanese%20in%20one%20episode:%20set%20in%20her%20massive%20cookbook%20library,%20she%20pulls%20out%20a%20few%20books%20(including%20Made%20in%20Sicily,%20one%20of%20my%20favorites!)%20and%20talks%20about%20how%20this%20sauce%20has%20been%20interpreted%20by%20others%20before%20going%20on%20to%20explain%20how%20she%20likes%20to%20make%20it.%20It%E2%80%99s%20natural,%20and%20thoughtful,%20and%20it%20does%20a%20great%20job%20of%20showing%20rather%20than%20simply%20telling%20me%20about%20how%20her%20recipe%20came%20about.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20the%20first%20episode%20she%20makes%20this%20dish%20called%20a%20tagliata%20for%20two,%20based%20on%20a%20dish%20she%20had%20in%20Florence.%20It%E2%80%99s%20meant%20to%20be%20a%20simpler%20version%20of%20the%20big%20traditional%20Florentine%20steak.%20Instead%20of%20a%20porterhouse,%20you%20instead%20use%20a%20New%20York%20strip%20(or%20in%20our%20case,%20small%20boneless%20ribeyes)%20and%20grill%20it%20for%20about%20two%20minutes%20on%20each%20side%20to%20keep%20it%20rare.%20Then%20you%20put%20it%20in%20a%20simple%20marinade%20of%20oregano,%20olive%20oil,%20salt,%20crushed%20red%20pepper,%20and%20red%20wine%20vinegar%20and%20let%20it%20rest,%20flipping%20once%20to%20make%20sure%20both%20sides%20of%20the%20meat%20get%20a%20taste%20of%20it.%20Then%20while%20one%20person%20slices%20the%20steak,%20the%20other%20can%20place%20a%20bunch%20of%20halved%20cherry%20or%20grape%20tomatoes%20in%20the%20marinade,%20cut%20side%20down,%20and%20smoosh%20them%20around%20a%20bit%20before%20pouring%20everything%20back%20on%20top%20of%20the%20meat%20slices%20and%20serving.%20The%20second%20I%20saw%20her%20make%20it,%20I%20immediately%20G-chatted%20Michael%20while%20he%20was%20at%20the%20gym%20and%20was%20basically%20a%20big%20ball%20of%20excitement%20because%20it%20looked%20so%20good%20and%20I%20knew%20he%20would%20be%20super%20into%20it.%20This%20was%20the%20first%20time%20in%20awhile%20that%20I%20was%20genuinely%20excited%20about%20making%20a%20recipe%20I%20had%20seen%20on%20TV%20(having%20watched%20and%20re-watched%20all%20of%20the%20Rachel%20Khoo%20and%20Lorraine%20Pascale%E2%80%99s%20episodes%20on%20Cooking%20Channel%20several%20times%20over%20by%20that%20point)%20and%20not%20only%20did%20I%20order%20the%20cookbook%20that%20inspired%20the%20show%20shortly%20thereafter,%20I%20carefully%20paced%20myself%20through%20the%20series%20to%20not%20blow%20through%20it%20too%20quickly.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EUnfortunately%20the%20show%20isn%E2%80%99t%20on%20Hulu%20at%20the%20moment%20as%20far%20as%20I%20can%20tell,%20but%20hopefully%20it%20will%20be%20back%20eventually;%20in%20the%20meantime,%20I%20would%20encourage%20you%20to%20get%20the%20cookbook.%20Her%20header%20notes%20and%20recipe%20instructions%20are%20as%20entertaining%20to%20read%20as%20she%20is%20to%20watch,%20and%20there%20are%20some%20real%20gems%20contained%20therein.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETagliata%20for%20Two%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETagliata%20for%20Two%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAdapted%20from%20Nigellissima%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2%20small%20boneless%20ribeye%20steaks%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDry%20off%20steaks%20with%20paper%20towels%20and%20then%20liberally%20season%20them%20with%20salt%20on%20both%20sides%20and%20drizzle%20with%20a%20little%20olive%20oil.%20Place%20a%20cast-iron%20pan%20or%20grill%20on%20high%20heat%20and%20let%20it%20warm%20up%20for%20a%20few%20minutes,%20and%20while%20it%20does%20so%20make%20the%20marinade%20for%20the%20steak.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20shallow%20plate%20or%20dish%20large%20enough%20to%20snugly%20hold%20the%20steaks,%20combine%20the%20olive%20oil,%20vinegar,%20crushed%20red%20pepper,%20oregano,%20and%20salt%20and%20whisk%20well.%20Once%20this%20is%20made,%20cook%20the%20steaks%20for%20two%20minutes%20on%20each%20side,%20and%20then%20immediately%20place%20them%20into%20the%20marinade%20to%20rest%20for%20two%20minutes%20on%20each%20side.%20Remove%20and%20place%20on%20a%20cutting%20board%20for%20slicing%20on%20the%20diagonal.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPlace%20the%20halved%20tomatoes,%20cut%20side%20down,%20in%20the%20marinade,%20smooshing%20them%20a%20bit,%20and%20then%20drizzle%20the%20tomatoes%20and%20marinade%20over%20the%20sliced%20steak%20and%20serve%20immediately%20with%20salad.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
