- Mix together cream, sugar, salt and syrup. Cook slowly, stirring constantly, till mix boils. Cover and cook 3 min. Remove cover; cook, stirring occasionally till soft ball forms in cool water, 236 to 238-degrees. Remove from heat; add in butter. Cold; beat till candy becomes dull. Add in vanilla and nuts; pour into buttered pan. Cut into squares when hard.
