%20as%20well%20as%20strawberry%20shortcake%20that%20was%20part%20of%20my%20family's%20Christmas%20feast%20last%20year.%20I've%20been%20so%20busy%20lately%20though%20that%20it%20just%20hasn't%20happened.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFor%20the%20next%20five%20months%20or%20so,%20I'm%20in%20the%20UK%20on%20a%20study%20abroad%20program,%20which%20means%20that%20baking%20chances%20are%20looking%20rather%20slim%20due%20to%20my%20lack%20of%20any%20baking%20equipment%20whatsoever.%20So%20what%20I%20thought%20I'd%20do%20is%20finish%20up%20all%20the%20half-written%20posts%20I%20have%20and%20then%20see%20how%20it%20goes,%20I%20may%20possibly%20have%20to%20put%20this%20blog%20on%20hiatus%20for%20a%20few%20months.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20in%20the%20meantime,%20food!%20For%20those%20that%20aren't%20aware%20Chinese%20New%20Year%20is%20coming%20up%20next%20week%20so%20I've%20got%20a%20couple%20of%20Chinese%20sweets%20for%20you.%20This%20recipe%20is%20for%20muar%20chee,%20which%20is%20made%20up%20of%20steamed%20glutinous%20rice%20dough%20and%20then%20rolled%20in%20a%20peanut-sugar-sesame%20coating.%20This%20was%20one%20of%20my%20favorite%20street%20food%20treats%20when%20I%20grew%20up%20in%20HK,%20I%20would%20love%20watching%20the%20vendor%20use%20a%20plastic%20paddle%20to%20scoop%20out%20a%20lump%20of%20sticky%20dough%20from%20a%20large%20bucket,%20throw%20it%20into%20a%20container%20with%20the%20coating%20mixture,%20and%20then%20snip%20it%20into%20bite-size%20pieces%20with%20a%20pair%20of%20snappy%20scissors.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20dough%20is%20the%20same%20as%20the%20one%20you'd%20make%20for%20Japanese%20mochi,%20just%20covered%20with%20a%20sweet%20crunchy%20coating.%20The%20difference%20in%20texture%20makes%20it%20addicting.%20The%20only%20thing%20you%20have%20to%20make%20sure%20of%20is%20to%20not%20over-steam%20the%20dough,%20if%20it%20overcooks%20the%20edges%20will%20harden%20and%20lose%20its%20silkiness.%20Also,%20the%20use%20of%20a%20plastic%20knife%20in%20the%20recipe%20is%20there%20intentionally%20-%20if%20you%20use%20anything%20else%20the%20dough%20will%20stick%20like%20crazy.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EKeep%20an%20eye%20out%20for%20another%20sweet%20recipe%20for%20CNY%20coming%20next%20week!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMuar%20Chee%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EHeat%20a%20wok%20with%20water%20over%20high%20heat%20to%20get%20ready%20for%20steaming.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20medium%20bowl,%20whisk%20together%20the%20flours%20and%20water%20until%20smooth.%20It%20will%20be%20quite%20a%20liquid%20mixture.%20Grease%20a%20shallow%20pan%20well%20(I%20used%20an%208x8%20inch%20square%20pan)%20and%20pour%20the%20flour/water%20mix%20into%20the%20pan.%20Steam%20the%20pan%20for%2010-15%20minutes,%20until%20the%20center%20is%20cooked.%20You%20can%20check%20by%20inserting%20a%20toothpick%20in%20the%20center%20and%20making%20sure%20it%20comes%20out%20clean.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20it%20steams,%20whiz%20the%20peanuts%20in%20a%20food%20processor%20for%20a%20few%20seconds%20to%20finely%20grind%20it%20(you%20can%20also%20put%20it%20into%20a%20ziplock%20bag%20and%20go%20at%20it%20with%20a%20rolling%20pin).%20In%20a%20deep%20dish,%20stir%20the%20ground%20peanuts%20with%20caster%20sugar%20and%20sesame%20seeds%20(optional:%20toast%20the%20sesame%20seeds%20in%20a%20dry%20pan%20until%20aromatic%20beforehand;%20I%20was%20too%20lazy).%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELet%20the%20rice%20paste%20cool%20slightly,%20then%20using%20a%20plastic%20knife%20cut%20strips%20from%20the%20pan%20and%20add%20it%20to%20the%20peanut%20mixture.%20Using%20scissors,%20snip%20it%20into%20chunks%20and%20transfer%20to%20a%20plate.%20Serve,%20or%20just%20eat%20'em%20as%20you%20make%20it.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
