- Cream shortening, gradually add in sugar and continue creaming till very light. Beat in egg yolks and melted chocolate. Sift together dry ingredients and add in alternately with portions of the water. When well blended, mix in stiffly beaten egg whites. Pour into 2 paper lined 9 inch layer pans. Bake at 375 degrees for 25-30 min or possibly till done.
- Heat chocolate over low heat. Remove from heat and add in sifted powdered sugar and hot water; blend well. Add in egg yolks, one at a time, beating thoroughly after each addition. Add in butter a tbsp at a time, beating thoroughly. Spread on cake.
