%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOur%20yard%20is%20graced%20by%20an%20outrageously%20abundant%20Meyer%20lemon%20tree.%20We're%20thoroughly%20mystified%20by%20its%20fecundity%20--%20we%20never%20water%20it%20(which%20is%20significant%20since%20it%20does%20not%20rain%20for%206%20months%20out%20of%20the%20year%20here),%20nor%20have%20we%20ever%20fertilized%20it,%20yet%20it%20churns%20out%20Meyer%20lemons%20like%20they%20were%20going%20out%20of%20style.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThe%20tree%20has%20such%20a%20prolific%20presence%20in%20our%20yard%20that%20%22memon%22%20is%20one%20of%20our%20son,%20Will's%20first%20words.%20As%20soon%20as%20we%20take%20him%20outside,%20he%20toddles%20over%20to%20the%20tree%20saying%20%22memon%22%20over%20and%20over%20in%20a%20soft,%20delighted,%20little%20voice%20that%20he%20reserves%20for%20the%20lemons,%20alone.%20Then%20he%20picks%20one%20(there%20is%20some%20parental%20assistance%20involved%20in%20that%20process)%20and%20walks%20around%20sucking%20on%20it%20and%20biting%20off%20small%20pieces%20of%20the%20soft%20peel%20with%20his%20three%20little%20teeth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20back%20to%20the%20sorbet.%20While%20the%20subtle,%20floral%20flavor%20of%20the%20Meyer%20lemons%20is%20uniquely%20lovely,%20you%20can%20easily%20substitute%20regular%20lemons%20or%20another%20citrus%20fruit%20if%20you%20can't%20find%20Meyers.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIt%20turns%20out%20that%20sorbet%20is%20surprisingly%20easy%20to%20make,%20especially%20if%20you%20have%20an%20ice%20cream%20maker%20(or%20have%20a%20friend%20who%20has%20one%20-%20thanks%20again,%20Ben!)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI've%20included%20the%20instructions%20for%20what%20to%20do%20if%20you%20do%20not%20have%20one,%20though.%20Thanks%20to%20Elise%20at%20Simply%20Recipes%20for%20providing%20the%20recipe%20below.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E1.%20Freeze%20your%20ice%20cream%20maker%20according%20to%20the%20manufacturer's%20instructions%20(it's%20probably%20easiest%20just%20to%20keep%20the%20freezer%20container%20in%20your%20freezer%20so%20that%20you%20can%20be%20ready%20to%20go%20whenever%20the%20urge%20to%20make%20sorbet%20or%20ice%20cream%20strikes%20you.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E2.%20In%20a%20small%20saucepan%20on%20medium%20high%20heat,%20make%20a%20simple%20syrup%20by%20heating%20sugar%20and%20water%20until%20the%20sugar%20has%20completely%20dissolved.%20Remove%20from%20heat%20and%20let%20cool.%20Mix%20in%20the%20lemon%20juice%20and%20zest.%20Chill%20in%20the%20refrigerator.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E3.%20Once%20the%20mixture%20has%20thoroughly%20chilled,%20pour%20it%20into%20the%20ice%20cream%20maker%20and%20process%20per%20the%20instructions%20for%20sorbet%20(most%20likely%20you%20will%20need%20to%20run%20it%20for%2020-30%20minutes.)%20If%20you%20don't%20have%20an%20ice%20cream%20maker,%20you%20can%20pour%20the%20mixture%20into%20a%20shallow%20pan%20and%20freeze%20in%20your%20freezer%20until%20semi-solid.%20Then%20take%20a%20fork%20and%20fluff%20it%20up,%20returning%20it%20the%20the%20freezer%20to%20freeze%20firm.%20Then%20put%20in%20a%20food-processor%20or%20blender%20to%20process%20until%20smooth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3E4.%20Transfer%20the%20sorbet%20to%20an%20airtight%20container%20and%20freeze%20until%20ready%20to%20serve.%20A%20melon-baller%20works%20well%20to%20scoop%20this%20out%20when%20you're%20ready%20to%20serve.%20Garnish%20with%20the%20mint%20leaves.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20may%20also%20like:%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
