%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETo%20quote%20Georgia,%20%E2%80%9CSANTA%20IS%20COMING!!%E2%80%9D%20We%20started%20getting%20ready%20for%20the%20big%20day%20at%20our%20house%20by%20watching%20Christmas%20movies%20all%20day,%20finishing%20our%20wrapping,%20going%20to%20church%20at%20night,%20having%20dinner%20as%20a%20family%20and%20then%20making%20some%20of%20the%20food%20we%E2%80%99ll%20have%20tomorrow%20when%20relatives%20join%20us%20to%20celebrate.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWe%20are%20sticking%20to%20the%20same%20menu%20we%E2%80%99ve%20had%20for%20the%20past%20few%20years,%20except%20that%20we%20are%20making%20turkey%20instead%20of%20spiral%20ham,%20and%20(sniffle)%20we%E2%80%99re%20omitting%20anything%20Italian%20like%20stuffed%20shells%20or%20lasagna.%20My%20mom%20is%20making%20the%20turkey,%20stuffing%20and%20gravy,%20with%20applesauce%20on%20the%20side,%20and%20then%20I%E2%80%99ll%20be%20making%20Corn%20Casserole,%20Swedish%20Meatballs%20with%20cream%20sauce%20and%20Lingonberry%20on%20the%20side%20(thanks%20Ikea!),%20and%20my%20in-laws%20are%20bringing%20potatoes.%20My%20brother%20and%20his%20girlfriend%20are%20making%20Stuffed%20Mushrooms%20and%20a%20salad,%20as%20well%20as%20apple%20pie%20cookies%20with%20vanilla%20ice%20cream.%20Finally,%20I%E2%80%99m%20making%20a%20Peppermint%20Ice%20Cream%20freezer%20cake%20(recipe%20coming%20shortly),%20and%20Mark%20is%20making%20his%20go-to%20appetizer,%20Pillsbury%20Crescent%20Sausage%20Rolls.%20I%E2%80%99m%20sure%20we%E2%80%99ll%20have%20lots%20of%20other%20snacks%20around,%20too.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%E2%80%99m%20pretty%20ready%20to%20relax%20with%20my%20family%20after%20going%20through%20two%20rounds%20of%20toddler%20illness%20recently,%20from%20that%20barking%20cough%20every%20kid%20seems%20to%20have%20caught,%20to%20the%20(blessedly%20brief)%20stomach%20bug%20that%20hit%20us%20last%20weekend.%20Better%20last%20week%20than%20on%20Christmas%20Day,%20I%20guess!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWhile%20prepping%20for%20our%20holiday%20cooking,%20I%20decided%20to%20throw%20together%20%20a%20savory%20dip%20using%20leftover%20ingredients%20and%20a%20couple%20pantry%20staples%20this%20afternoon,%20and%20it%20came%20out%20great%20so%20I%20wanted%20to%20share.%20It%E2%80%99s%20perfect%20for%20the%20day%20after%20Christmas,%20%20a%20New%20Year%E2%80%99s%20Eve%20party,%20or%20just%20relaxing%20on%20New%20Year%E2%80%99s%20Day.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECARAMELIZED%20ONION%20DIP%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EDirections%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20saut%C3%A9%20pan,%20melt%20the%20butter%20over%20medium%20then%20add%20the%20onions%20and%20brown%20sugar%20and%20cook%20until%20caramelized.%20Reserve%201/4%20cup.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIn%20a%20blender,%20combine%20the%20applesauce,%20yogurt%20and%20the%20rest%20of%20the%20onions%20and%20mix%20until%20smooth.%20Add%20the%20minced%20garlic%20and%20give%20one%20last%20pulse.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EServe%20warm%20or%20cold%20with%20chips,%20crudit%C3%A9s%20or%20French%20fries,%20adding%20the%20reserved%20onion%20on%20top%20for%20guests%20to%20mix%20in%20as%20they%20dip.%20I%20also%20added%20a%20little%20bit%20of%20salt%20upon%20taste-tasting.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ETrue%20confession:%20I%20dropped%20the%20applesauce%20in%20the%20measuring%20cup%20onto%20the%20floor%20as%20I%20was%20trying%20to%20carry%20it%20to%20the%20blender,%20so%20this%20was%20made%20with%20the%20kind%20of%20applesauce%20you%20find%20in%20toddler%20snack%20pouches%20(organic%20still,%20of%20course%20;)%20).%20It%20made%20me%20think,%20though,%20that%20you%20could%20make%20this%20dip%20with%20lots%20of%20different%20types%20of%20leftover%20fruit%20sauces,%20chutneys%20or%20relish.%20Pump%20up%20the%20garlic%20if%20you%20like,%20too!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EFrom%20my%20house%20to%20yours,%20I%20hope%20you%20have%20a%20wonderful,%20restful,%20peaceful,%20and%20relaxing%20holiday.%20Happy%20Christmas%20to%20all,%20and%20to%20all%20a%20good%20night!%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ELike%20Loading...%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ERelated%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
