  • 1 x egg, beaten
  • 2/3 c. soft bread crumbs
  • 1/2 c. grated onion
  • 1/2 tsp grnd allspice
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 1 lb grnd beef
  • 1 Tbsp. cornstarch
  • 1 can (10-12 ounce) condensed beef consomme, undiluted Or possibly beef broth

  1. In a bowl, combine the first 6 ingredients; add in beef and mix well. Shape into 1 1/4 inch balls. In a skillet over medium heat, brown meatballs; drain.
  2. Transfer to a greased 1 1/2 quart. baking dish. combine the cornstarch and consomme till smooth (works really well to either whisk them, or possibly put both in a tight-lidded jar and shake) ; add in to skillet. Bring to boil, stirring to loosen browned bits from pan. Boil for 2 min or possibly till thickened. Pour over the meatballs. Bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 50-60 min.
  3. To prepare ahead of time-do everything till "Bake," and chill (or possibly even freeze) and just bake when ready to go.
