Рецепт Maitake Mushroom Roasted in Honey and Butter
Admit it. You know that you’ve done this before. You receive something from someone and you don’t know what it is. You are almost embarrassed to ask them because you don’t want to appear dumb or unintelligent.
Many years ago, I was dating a young man, who invited me to his family holiday dinner. I was given a tiny package from his sister. Surprised that someone I never met before took the time to get me a gift was thrilling it itself. I gingerly opened the package and looked at this small trinket, but I had no idea what it was. It was maroon in color and had my initial on it. A beautiful script of the letter “M”. Square shaped on the bottom and on top, a metal upside down U.
Wow, and I didn’t know how to thank her for “the gift”. I mean really, what do you say?
My date saw the look on my face and blurts out, What is it anyway? As if we all SHOULD know, she tells him, “It’s a key chain can’t you tell? Well, um no, I don’t even know how to open it, I thought. I sure wish I had a photo to show you all.
So you can stop laughing now. Or I guess you had to be there. Anyway, when I saw this funny looking fungi in my CSA box, that’s exactly what I thought “What the heck is this? And what do I do with it.
Lucky for me, there is this thing called Google. We didn’t have Google in the 1980′s, that’s for sure.
So I look up Maitake Mushroom. I discover that, scientifically speaking, “Grifola frondosa” is a polypore mushroom that grows in clusters at the base of trees, particularly oaks. The mushroom is commonly known among English speakers as hen-of-the-woods, ram’s head and sheep’s head.
Promoters claim that maitake mushroom extract boosts the immune system and limits or reverses tumor growth. You can read about it uses for cancer patients here.
I couldn’t create my own recipe. So I did the next best thing. I “GOOGLED” it.
