Luther’s Seminary Communion Bread

Have you ever made Communion Bread?? I hadn’t, and the Youngest has bugged me for years to make it, he really LOVES the Communion Bread! Now, I’m no holy roller by any means, so I figured I may not be up to the challenge. As part of Confirmation, all the kids take an active part in preparing the WHOLE service for the day. And when I say WHOLE service I mean baking the Communion Bread, too. Guess who’s hand went up first when the Pastor asked who would like to bake the Communion Bread??

You people are smart!

You guessed the Youngest and you were right and he even threw in “and my mom has a food blog, so she can talk about how we made it” Great, the pressure is on, not only do I have to help make the bread, but now I have to write about it as well. As in confess, even if something goes wrong!

You see, in the “real” virtual world, if something goes wrong, you usually don’t hear about it, but now I have no choice! And the worst part….The kids (the Youngest and his friend) will be making this at my house, while I’m not there!! I have to work and they are going to attempt making not just one or two batches, but 3 batches!! And they have the attention span of a gnat, oh boy. Hopefully God will be looking out for them (and my kitchen)!

UPDATE: They did a GREAT job and left the kitchen in one piece, but the camera-the one sitting right in the middle of the counter, didn’t get used-as in, no picture of the bread, oh, well could have been worse!

Luther’s Seminary Communion Bread

INGREDIENTS:

DIRECTIONS:

Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together the whole wheat flour, white flour, salt and baking powder. In another bowl mix the oil, hot water, honey and molasses. In a mixer blend together the dry and wet ingredients, alternating. Blend together very well. If it’s too sticky add flour, if too crumbly add water. Divide dough into 4 balls. Spray clean surface with cooking spray and roll out each ball into a circle to 1/4 inch thick. Mark with a cross, place on greased pan. Score thru into 36 pieces. Bake at 350 degrees for approximately 18-20 minutes. Cool on wire racks and wrap. May be frozen.
