Light Patriotic Trifles ~ Delicious, Light Dessert Recipe to Feed You Sweet Tooth! Layers of Angel Food Cake, Strawberries, Blueberries and Whipped Topping!

Have you ever taken a paddle board for a spin? It’s apparently the hot, new thing to do here in Minnesota. You might have heard about it ten years ago but it’s finally made it’s way here and it’s all the rage. In passing, a few weeks ago, I mentioned that I thought it looked like fun and I kind of wanted one to my hubs. After that quick mention the moment passed and I was on to other things. For the last week or so my hubs has been telling me about this AWESOME birthday present he is getting me. He’s researched and found the perfect one plus located it at a store, which I guess was hard to do. You might see where this story is heading, but I was clueless. I kept thinking he was getting me a bike because I had mentioned over the last year or two that I might want one. The hubs told me when he picked up my present this past weekend I was going to get it early because it was large and he couldn’t hide it from me. A bike was all I could come up with that would be big enough he couldn’t hide it from me.

On Friday after work he took a quick detour to a larger town before coming to the cabin to meet me there. The trip was to get my birthday present and I was like a little child awaiting her birthday back at the cabin. I was seriously hoping for a big surprise and not a bike. I love, love, love a good surprise that meant he actually planned and thought out my present. I’m kind of high maintenance like that. I was grilling dinner and called him to see when he would be there. He informed me he was just coming by the golf course which meant he would be there in a matter of minutes. I quickly ran to the door and peered down the road to see what he would bring me. As he backed into the driveway I caught a glimpse of my present in the back of the truck. You guessed it! It was my beloved paddle board. Major brownie points for the hubs! I couldn’t wait to break it in. He promised me it was the best one for a beginner and would be stable. I quickly found out paddle boards aren’t very stable no matter what but I assure you I stayed dry the entire weekend while I enjoyed it! I’m sure some day I’ll take a swim off of it but so far so good!

With the long 4th of July weekend coming up I know I’ll be getting a lot of use out of it! The best time of day to use it is right away in the morning when it’s super still out or in the evening while the sun is setting. So far, it’s been the evening for me because I’ll kind of love my sleep. I’m not giving that up for the paddle board! These delicious Patriotic Trifles I’m sharing today are made with Angel Food Cake, fresh strawberries and blueberries plus a little Reddi-Whip. Quick, easy and delicious plus light so it won’t keep you from sporting that swimsuit and the lake this summer!
