.%20Eventually,%20the%20bread%20pieces%20add%20up.%20I%20think%20my%20initial%20intention%20was%20to%20make%20a%20bread%20pudding%20of%20sorts.%20Which%20I%20really%20could've%20done.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBut%20this%20one%20particular%20night%20I%20was%20in%20the%20mood%20for%20stuffing.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20can't%20tell%20you%20what%20kind%20of%20breads%20I%20used.%20There%20were%20all%20sorts.%20Which%20added%20different%20textures%20and%20flavor%20to%20my%20homemade%20stuffing.%20It%20really%20was%20fun.%20What%20I%20basically%20did%20was%20look%20at%20one%20of%20those%20Mrs.%20Cubbisons%20Stuffing%20boxes%20and%20followed%20the%20recommendations%20on%20the%20back,%20based%20on%20how%20much%20bread%20I%20had.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EI%20defrosted%20my%20bread%20on%20a%20wire%20rack%20(didn't%20want%20any%20moisture%20to%20make%20my%20bread%20soggy).%20Defrosting%20them%20really%20didn't%20take%20long.%20Basically,%20I%20started%20in%20the%20morning.%20By%20mid%20afternoon,%20they%20were%20defrosted%20and%20dry%20and%20I%20cut%20the%20random%20pieces%20of%20bread%20into%20chunks.%20It%20doesn't%20take%20all%20morning%20for%20the%20bread%20to%20defrost%20but%20I%20wanted%20them%20to%20dry%20out%20as%20much%20as%20possible.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EYou%20know....you%20can%20use%20any%20kind%20of%20bread%20for%20this.%20It's%20a%20nice%20way%20to%20keep%20waste%20down.%20I%20sometimes%20add%20the%20heals%20of%20different%20store%20bought%20loaves%20to%20the%20batch.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIf%20the%20bread%20has%20indeed%20started%20to%20mold,%20they%20end%20up%20in%20my%20compost%20bin.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20the%20bread%20has%20been%20cubed,%20I%20laid%20them%20out%20on%20a%20baking%20sheet%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3Eand%20stuck%20them%20in%20a%20warm%20(about%20250'%20F)%20oven%20and%20let%20them%20dry%20out,%20tossing%20them%20around%20every%20once%20in%20a%20while.%20This%20could%20take%20some%20time....depending%20on%20the%20moisture%20in%20the%20bread%20and%20how%20big%20your%20cubes%20are.%20I%20think%20it%20took%20about%2045%20minutes.%20Don't%20hold%20me%20to%20it...just%20keep%20an%20eye%20on%20everything%20as%20it%20goes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOnce%20dried...you're%20ready%20to%20roll.%20And%20the%20combination%20possibilities%20are%20endless.%20I%20will%20give%20you%20a%20starting%20point....you%20know%20what%20you%20like%20and%20can%20adjust%20to%20your%20personal%20tastes.%20Just%20know%20that%20what%20you%20buy%20in%20a%20box%20can%20be%20made%20from%20your%20leftover%20pieces%20of%20bread%20and%20will%20be%20just%20as%20good,%20if%20not%20better.%20Not%20to%20mention%20a%20little%20cheaper.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20you%20just%20might%20feel%20better%20doing%20it.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20your%20oven%20to%20350'%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMelt%20the%20butter%20in%20a%20pan%20and%20saute%20the%20veggies%20until%20tender.%20In%20a%20large%20bowl,%20combine%20everything.%20Well....if%20you've%20ever%20made%20stuffing%20before,%20you%20know%20the%20routine....toss%20until%20the%20bread%20cubes%20are%20evenly%20coated.%20If%20you%20like%20a%20more%20moist%20stuffing,%20add%20more%20broth.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ECoat%20a%20casserole%20dish%20with%20cooking%20spray%20and%20bake%20for%20about%2030%20minutes.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EOf%20course%20you%20can%20use%20it%20to%20stuff%20a%20turkey%20or%20chicken%20as%20well.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EAnd%20there%20you%20have%20it......a%20basic%20recipe.%20Change%20it%20up...add%20your%20own%20touch%20with%20your%20own%20favorites.%20My%20mom%20loves%20to%20add%20boudin%20sausage%20(taken%20out%20of%20the%20skins,%20crumbled%20and%20cooked).%20Although%20Sir%20Sportsalot%20won't%20let%20me%20do%20that.%20Truth%20be%20told,%20he%20was%20bummed%20that%20I%20added%20the%20mushrooms.%20He's%20a%20traditionalist.%20And%20he%20loves%20stuffing!!!%20But%20he%20likes%20it%20the%20way%20I've%20always%20made%20it,%20which%20is%20the%20way%20his%20mother%20and%20grandmother%20made%20it%20(basic.%20no%20mushrooms).%20Any%20change%20(even%20though%20I'd%20consider%20it%20an%20improvement)%20is%20looked%20upon%20expressionless....with%20a%20silent%20(until%20dinner%20is%20over)%20resignation.%20When%20there's%20some%20left%20on%20the%20plate%20after%20dinner%20is%20over,%20I%20know%20it%20wasn't%20accepted.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EWith%20that%20said...I'm%20sorry%20to%20say,%20this%20will%20be%20the%20last%20batch%20of%20stuffing%20I%20make%20which%20includes%20mushrooms.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESigh.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EThis%20is%20my%20entry%20into%20this%20weeks%20Hearth%20and%20Soul%20Blog%20Hop!%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
