Рецепт Kuchen
March recipes are all about getting back to our roots here at Carolina HeartStrings. Mine mainly being German/Russian I decided to begin with one of my favorite treats when I was a child. My maternal grandmother was of German/Russian descent. Born in Russia, she immigrated as a baby to the United States. She settled with her family in North Dakota in a community largely made up of relatives and other immigrants like herself. The meals that were prepared were typical German dishes, all from scratch, never using a recipe. I found her recipe on a card that I had copied down when I was very young. When I started looking at it, I was not all that sure I could follow the directions and realized that the quantities were very large, so I halved them all. I was not at all sure it would have a successful outcome. But it did! And it was delicious! It brought back some wonderful memories when I tasted it!

Инструкции
- Grease one 9 x 13 pan or two 9 inch cake pans with butter. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Warm the 1/2 cup water. Sprinkle yeast over the water. Stir gently to make sure the yeast is evenly distributed in the water. Set aside. Mix the milk, sugar, salt and butter in a saucepan. Heat until the butter is melted and the sugar is dissolved. Cool slightly (until mixture is lukewarm). Add the dissolved yeast mixture. Stir to combine. In a large bowl combine the flour, eggs, vanilla and lemon extract. Stir to combine. Add add the sugar/yeast mixture. Stir until smooth and blended well. The dough will be sticky. Spread the dough in the 9 x 13 pan or divide between the two 9 inch cake pans. Set in a warm place and let rise 50 minutes.
- Mix the last three ingredients (butter, sugar, cinnamon). Sprinkle over the dough. Bake for 30 minutes or until the top is golden brown and the sugar/cinnamon topping is like syrup. Makes 12-16 servings.
