%20to%20our%20group%20and%20Christmas%20was%20everywhere%20you%20looked.%20The%20home%20was%20recently%20featured%20in%20Palm%20Beach%20Illustrated%20and%20here's%20a%20photo%20of%20their%20dining%20room%20table%20from%20that%20issue...just%20to%20give%20you%20a%20little%20taste%20of%20how%20beautifully%20their%20home%20was%20decorated%20for%20the%20holidays.%20I%20should%20have%20taken%20some%20photos%20that%20night%20for%20this%20post,%20but%20thoroughly%20enjoyed%20myself%20among%20friends%20instead.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJoyce%20is%20also%20a%20chef%20extraordinaire%20and%20had%20placed%20a%20small%20plate%20of%20her%20homemade%20fruit%20cake%20out%20on%20a%20(pine%20cone-decorated)%20counter%20in%20the%20kitchen.%20Now%20I%20am%20the%20first%20one%20to%20say:%20I%20am%20NOT%20a%20fruit%20cake%20aficionado.%20Those%20brick-shaped,%20brandy-soaked%20cakes%20loaded%20with%20candied%20fruit%20are%20not%20for%20me.%20I%20used%20to%20make%20them%20too....gave%20them%20as%20gifts%20to%20everyone!%20(Mea%20culpa%20to%20all%20who%20received%20them%20in%20the%2060's%20and%2070's%20and%20groaned%20when%20they%20saw%20them%20coming!)%20A%20friend%20of%20my%20mother's,%20Martha%20Kirby,%20gave%20me%20the%20recipe.%20For%20those%20of%20you%20who%20do%20love%20old%20fashioned%20fruit%20cakes,%20I%20apologize,%20but%20I%20have%20to%20be%20up%20front%20here.%20I%20am%20not%20one%20of%20you.%20And%20even%20though%20I%20made%20them%20for%20many%20years,%20not%20once%20did%20I%20ever%20taste%20one.%20But%20my%20mother%20said%20Martha's%20recipe%20was%20to%20die%20for.%20Oh%20well,%20sorry,%20but%20you're%20not%20going%20to%20see%20that%20old%20recipe%20on%20this%20blog.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3ESo%20when%20Joyce%20asked%20us%20to%20taste,%20I%20was%20skeptical%20(those%20cherries%20looked%20suspiciously%20like%20candied%20cherries%20to%20me),%20but%20I%20must%20admit,%20the%20slice%20itself%20didn't%20resemble%20Martha%20Kirby's%20fruit%20cake%20one%20bit.%20And%20Joyce%20assured%20us:%20%22trust%20me,%20this%20isn't%20like%20any%20fruitcake%20you've%20ever%20had.%20No%20candied%20fruit,%20lots%20of%20nuts%20and%20it's%20really%20special.%22%20So%20we%20all%20tried%20it%20and%20she%20was%20right.%20The%20cake%20is%20light%20and%20the%20crunch%20of%20the%20nuts%20a%20nice%20counter%20to%20the%20fruit%20and%20cake.%20I%20think%20you%20might%20like%20it%20too%20and%20since%20Joyce%20was%20sweet%20enough%20to%20share%20the%20recipe,%20I%20hope%20you%20have%20a%20chance%20to%20give%20it%20a%20try.%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EJoyce's%20Brazil%20Nut%20Fruit%20Cake%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EIngredients:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMethod:%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EPreheat%20oven%20to%20300%20degrees%20F.%20Grease%20and%20flour%20one%209x5%20inch%20loaf%20pan%20or%20three%203%C2%BD%20x%205%20inch%20pans.%20(I%20used%20two%203%201/2%20by%207%201/2%20pans.%20I%20also%20lined%20the%20pan%20with%20parchment%20paper%20and%20lightly%20sprayed%20it%20with%20Pam.%20So%20much%20simpler%20to%20get%20out.)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EMix%20the%20flour,%20white%20sugar,%20baking%20powder,%20and%20salt%20together%20in%20a%20large%20bowl.%20Toss%20the%20nuts,%20dates,%20and%20cherries%20in%20flour%20mixture.%20(You'll%20find%20it%20easier%20to%20do%20all%20the%20mixing%20with%20your%20hands)%3C/p%3E%3Cp%3EBeat%20the%20eggs%20until%20foamy%20add%20the%20vanilla.%20Pour%20the%20beaten%20eggs%20over%20the%20nut,%20fruit%20and%20flour%20mixture.%20Mix%20with%20your%20hands%20until%20combined.%20Transfer%20to%20the%20prepared%20pan/pans,%20pressing%20down%20slightly.%3C/p%3E){kind=link}
